How can I get my extra NCD?

It isn't fraud and its ridiculous to suggest as such. You will get the maximum level of discount that company provides and if you go elsewhere they will do the same.
If you mislead the insurer you are misrepresenting the facts. In this case they will have recorded what NCD you have and given the biggest discount applicable.

bigp - key question. Have you still got written evidence of your prior NCB entitlements? If so then you should have a chain of documents which prove the maximum number of claim free years of insurance which you are concerned might be disadvantaging you.

Yes I have. I was sent a pdf with 11 years NCD 2 years ago before I went with Tesco.

So I have plugged in the details using 9 yrs and 13 yrs and its a difference of £75.

So to anyone who says its the maximum they give I call BS on the company and industry. A bunch of fraudsters.

They are misleading my new insurer by saying 9 years when I have 13 years. Facts are facts.

Just enter the number of years you have been claim free. If someone queries it, show them the paperwork to prove how long.
The fact that Tesco's computer shows 9 years shouldn't be a problem.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

With your current insurer you don't have 13 yrs you have 9 yrs No Claims Discount.
That is not the same thing as how long ago you last made a claim.
Last year I had 16 yrs NCD even though I had made a fault claim 2 yrs before.

Are you comparing the cheapest with the cheapest for both amounts of NCD or the same company?. It's odd that there would be such a big difference.

Different companies have different maximums which is a fact.

You have obviously not read what i or others have written above . You DO NOT have 13 years NCD. You have 9 because that's how much your last insurance say you have, that's the rules.
It's NOT how many years you haven't made a claim.

If it is such an important issue to you then you need to pay more attentiin when getting quotes from insurers. When getting a quote from Tesco I know that the maximum NCD you can enter is "9+". Other insurers nay be different but when you leave Tesco the max NCD they will state is 9. You never told them you had more in the first place.

You can sometimes use a previous years renewal notice when going to a difference insurer.
I changed insurer both last year and this and for my 2018 renewal, with a third different insurer, a NCD notice dated up to June 2016 would have been accepted so I could have used last years 16yr NCD rather than this years 9yr NCD.

I don't think you are quite getting it. Its not misleading its just the max they can provide. You aren't losing out.

.

Which insurer is this as I find that surprising? Are you sure you used exactly the same details otherwise?

The scale of discount isn't linear. You generally get a big discount for the first 2-3 years, a small extra discount for 4-5 years and very little extra for additional years (and 0 extra after 9 years in most cases).
