How can I get my extra NCD?

I had 12 years NCD before I joined Tesco Bank 2 years ago. Last year they were cheapest even on renewal.

This year they are about £150 more expensive. Anyway I put in details 14 yrs NCD only to be told tesco offer a maximum of 9 years.

Isnt this fraudulent?

Putting in 9 years and the cheapest is now £50 more expensive so still cheaper than Tesco but thats after using 9 years NCD.

Can I ask them for a letter confirming that I had 12 before I started and have been with them 2 years?

Very few insurers give additional discount past 9 years. The only one I know of only gives an additional 1% for every year over 9 years.

The rise in premiums is almost certainly not due to this.

However that maybe the case but isn't this being fraudulent by lowering down my actual driving history?

If it was the other way round I would be considered as a Insurance Fraudster if I kept anything from them.

You really think this is fraud?

Report it to the police then.

They won't be much use. Big companies don't interest them.

Imagine I put the number of years I have had a licence down wrong from 28 instead of 27 years - they could void the insurance for that.

They want to set the rules then don't abide by them.

Neither do things which aren't crimes.

I had the same, last year I had 16yrs NCD but this year only 9yrs.
However when I changed my online quote from 17yrs to 9yrs the premium went down by £5.

Insurance companies make up the rules around NCD and can choose how many they want to issue. Like others have said when you get to 9+ years it makes very little difference to your premiums; how good you were at not having (at fault) accidents 5+ years ago isn't very relevant to them.

If a company has a limit of 9 years NCD then that is how many you will get and isn't "wrong". The amount of years NCD isn't supposed to be exactly how many years you have driven without an accident. For example when i first started driving i went with a company that gave me 1 years NCD for a 10 month policy.

bigp - key question. Have you still got written evidence of your prior NCB entitlements? If so then you should have a chain of documents which prove the maximum number of claim free years of insurance which you are concerned might be disadvantaging you.

how have you gone 12 years and not realised this has always been a thing?

You'll probably find the insurer your trying to go to will have a box in the T&C's about "Maximum No claims Discount"

Some insurers only recognise 5 years, Some 6, Some 7, Some 8, Some 9.

Goodluck on the fraud accusation given they are pretty upfront before you take a policy if you chose to read the T&Cs not just the comparison site prices.
