Thank you to recent posters, I have checked out Dave Ramsey and have been lent a copy of his book so I'm going to read it tonight. I was going to pay debts by interest order but I think I am going to start with smallest first for sure. I'd totally forgotten about a Simply Be account that I have but I think it has about £150 on the account so am going to clear that with my bonus. I've potentially got £1250 in bonuses due in August which should help.

@dimestorediamond I worked out that we'd be neither here nor there if he went part time on his current salary, what he'd lose would be the equivalent to what we're paying for the dogs so I just need to find a way of maximising his salary and minimising dog expenses. In 4 months time he will start working on call (he works for a pharmaceutical testing company and would be on call to accept samples) and there is a good potential for an extra £500+ a month we've just got to get through the next 4 months! I also think our childcare bill might end up being cheaper than anticipated through childcare vouchers but as this is the first time we're using it I'm not sure.

Re: the pocket money thing, It's purely because I've amassed a huge amount of debt, he gets really funny about not having money and we fall out. I actually really understand it, I mean if I watched my husband spend all of our money and then tell me I can't have any personal spending because he had spent all of it I'd kill him! He's agreed to lower it to £25 a month though.

@FTBNow No and its not something I would consider.

@fudgecat i have a spaniel and a spaniel x terrier. It's unfortunately not our door to cut up, and due to one of the dog's escaping before I don't know how comfortable I would be with it even if the landlord said yes. Additionally we live next to the dodgiest people and back on to an estate with a bad reputation and am terrified that the dogs would get stolen, Sprocker spaniels are quite popular for dog thieves. I'd consider it if we lived elsewhere! I'm going to see if I can come home this week, two days a week (the dogs will be out anyway) and time how long I can be at home for before having to return.

You are over £600 short each month just to break even , you have no money to pay off debts . You have to address this shortfall now , there is no way you are going to cover this by selling things on eaby or eating out of your cupboards

    Except that
    A) Finding a job isnt always easy
    B) Finding somewhere to rent while bankrupt can also be difficult
    C) Finding somewhere to rent with dogs is hard enough

My children /family will always come first and if a pet has to go , so be it . What happens when the money runs out completely and you cant pay vet bills

She has £50k of debt though, that she can!!!8217;t afford to repay even if the dogs weren!!!8217;t costing a bean. A fairly low paying job is the only thing stopping her going bankrupt which is probably the only way to be rid of that debt in any kind of realistic timeframe. It!!!8217;s got to be worth at least considering looking for something else surely?

I really don't think 100 for groceries is feasable. I buy everything boggy basic and struggle to get it under 150 for 2 adults and a 2 year old. If you manage it though, please let me know how!

Meat is a carcinogen, exhaust fumes are carcinogens, both of these are far more dangerous to your health than a tiny amount of food additive in kibble is to your dog’s health but I bet you don’t worry about them very much!
I do actually! I'm one of those people, BPA free plastic and the like. Blame my mother, she's super paranoid :rotfl: Oh and I believe everything I read:eek:

Go onto somewhere like top cashback to shop for broadband etc, you might find you can get a better deal
I think £100 food a month is ambitious for the 3 of you but good luck with that.
I can't remember if you've already said but are you paying for council tax over 12 months not 10?
Not entirely sure if I'll be able to reduce the broadband due to the lack of plug sockets - it would cost more to install a plug socket. I'm going to "leave" virgin though in August and we will see what happen.

£100 isn't that ambitious in the sense that my freezer and chest freezer is full, and as I've had a gastric sleeve my portion sizes are tiny. I'm going to take the £100 out in cash and put it in to an envelope and ban myself from going to shops - when OH goes he sticks to the list.

I'm totally going to pay this off within 5 years, you just watch me.

You don’t eat red or processed meat then?

If you know you do it, and you know it’s illogical, you can stop it!

£140 short now I've cancelled things, worked out minimum payments, checked my salary etc.

We can eat out of our cupboards and freezer for about three months, there's only OH and DS to feed, I can only eat three tablespoons in a meal three times a day.

I love my job, its the only place I have ever felt valued. Additionally every other place I've worked - I've been badly bullied. Andddd work have just signed off the course I want to do which would cost me 2k if I was to pay for it myself.

It's purely due to the volume of food we have in already. And I'm currently a cheap date

I can't digest red meat anyway because of the gastric sleeve but before that I didn't anyway. I don't eat bacon because of the nitrates, don't eat ham.

I do eat fish and chicken and try to get organic when its reduced at the Co Op or Waitrose (YS works out cheaper at waitrose than other places sometimes). If its a fruit or vegetable that I can peel, I won't buy organic but if its something like an apple I'll buy organic.

I'm not a vegetarian, I'm a what can my tiny banana sized stomach eat. Which at the moment is turkey chili and lots of soup! I even make my own baked beans.....
