Hi all,
My BT deal is up in over a month's time and know I have to give them a month's notice to cancel.
I've heard that BT's retention dept aren't overly fussed on retention... Is it possible to have my girlfriend (who lives at same address) sign up for a new service to start after my current one ends so I can avail of new customer deals?
I'm assuming that there's some reason why it can't be done as I haven't heard of more people doing it... If someone could give me their thoughts either way.
Cheers
Matthew

That if it works would require you to cancel the service .You would need to check if cease charges or new line charges apply .
You could also lose your current phone number .0 -
And if BT do cease the line, your girlfriend would not be able to place a new order until the cease has completed.
So you maybe without phone and broadband for a while.0 -

Thanks both!
Don't use the landline at all - don't even have a phone plugged in.
My 12 month term is set to cancel on 1 August and if she organises a deal mid July to get the internet etc to be set up/connected on 2nd or 3rd of August... I thought that could work.
But from reading your message you're saying that she wouldn't be able to go through the motions of purchasing a deal until AFTER 1 Aug?0 -
Some suppliers will reject a new order on a line which is waiting to be ceased. (e.g. Plusnet) , some may not but I have no advice on which ones would accept an order and keep trying on her behalf.
But the wait time for a new service is an unknown quantity.0 -
I was going to do something similar on monday - our discount on the broadband was ending and was going to see what they could offer me a new customer.
Online didn't show anything incredibly inticing so my OH (account owner) rang up and got a better deal than I was ever going to get a new customer!
Worth ringing them now to discuss your options and see what deals they can do for you!0 -
Change to a competitor - even an inhouse one e.g. Plusnet and you'll be a new customer next time. Rise and repeat each time the minimum term is reached or they raise their prices.
You can then usually keep the landline number too...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Why not just find a cheaper company?0

Hi my BT fiber contract was up in August , I rang the retention team today to give them 30 days notice said my price was doubling in a month's time and I wanted to cancel , to my surprise the guy offered me exact same plan I'm on now 'Bt infinity' my speeds 46mbs and at same price I was paying £30 but with an 18 month contract. And you could get your gf to sign up to a contract now and just cancel yours in months time . You can have as m as many Broadband providers as you like just say your housemates , I know ppl with 2 separate broadbands one for kids one for them and so on0

Will it still be worth it when BT increase the price of landline and BB in September? When they do in my case it will be an increase of £3. Mine runs out in mid august, I think I will switch.0
