Old Style Daily Wednesday 20th June 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone :hello:

I need to get some shopping this morning. As the weather is forecast to be sunny and warm I’ll do that early so that I can go out and enjoy the weather later.

I couldn’t decide what I fancied for dinner yesterday so opted for a hm ready meal of fish pie. While I was looking for that I came a across a couple of steamed sponge puddings that must have been in there for a good few months so I had one of them for pudding with some ice cream. I also found some cheesecake, so have got a slice of that out for tonight.

Yesterday I wore a pair of shoes I haven’t worn for a while and this morning I have got two large blister on my foot so I’m going to have to try on different shoes until I find some that I can actually walk in.

So not much happening at the moment, just plodding along with normal everyday life.

TA hopefully now the medication has all been added to Mr TA’s repeat list that will stop all of the problems you have been having.

Lainey I hope Lulu is ok now.

Snoozer I’m pleased to hear that you have recovered enough to go to Bath, it would have been a shame to miss the trip. Enjoy yourself.

JackieO I hope that you have fully recovered and had a good evening at the quiz.

I hope the salt water works redruby, it’s certainly something I would try.

Sorry to hear about your mum Gers.

Have a good Wednesday everyone whatever you are doing.
  • Morning folks and thanks for starting us off HOLLY. A cloudy start here with a bit of a breeze but the sun is forecast to appear intermittently and it feels mild.

I am abandoning ship today and having a bus trip to Skipton with my friend. Usual trawl of the cs and market stalls before a late lunch and a bottle of wine, whilst sharing all our worries and woes and generally putting the world to rights!

I will leave Mr TA well provided for with snacks and a light lunch he can warm in the mw. I made a few little shpherd's pies yesterday for the freezer and left one in the fridge to warm for his tea when I get back. With copious amounts of gravy he can still manage to eat that. One of the few "proper" meals he can still eat.

SNOOZER enjoy your time in Bath. I am envious. GERS it's a worry with your mum when you are not close at hand. Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) where wanted/needed. Take care all xx

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly he wants a lift to my work car park then will walk to the gym from there.

Weather is again cloudy, dreich and dull - but muggy and warm, no sunshine as yet but not getting much although it's dry and warm.

Dinner last night was pork steaks braised in stock which I then made into gravy, I served it with mash, carrots, green beans, peas, LO cauli/broc cheese and LO yorkshires, ice cream for dessert.

Hairdresser came last night so dinner was a little later, I remembered to get the sausages out to defrost so tonight we'll be having full english, can't wait.

Yesterday work was as bad as Monday - with unhappy customers I had a bit of a situation with customers encouraging other customers to get loud and they thought by trying to be "mob handed" they would beat the system, urgh, sorry it doesn't work like that! I'm doing the other job today so it will be less pressurized. On days' off after today but working Saturday.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

It's rained all night here, everything is so wet I think I'll need a boat to get to work! It seems ages since I got washing dried outside.

What a palava TA, hope everything is sorted now. You really don't need that kind of bother.
Poor Lulu, my heart goes out to her.

Went to see Book Club last night, it was ok, glad it was cheap Tuesday though, would have felt cheated if I'd paid full price.

I've got a busy day ahead at work, I've been asking about jotters for next year and haven't had an order, they've suddenly realised there's only a week left of this school year!

Have a happy Wednesday. Take care. XX

Dull and overcast here this morning although its meant to be brightening up later on, I have a later start this morning as I am on a meds course which starts at 9.30, its only till lunch time and then I will return to work.

I have requested a supervision this afternoon having been told for the last 18 months that my new job will not include weekends I have now been told via a colleague that I shall be expected to work a regular weekend, I am not at all happy with this and want some clarification so I can make my mind up about the job !

Not sure about dinner tonight I will go and look in the freezer after this, there is plenty in there so we wont go hungry.

Short week this week for me which is nice.

Right better get on have good days all xx

I hope that your colleague is mistaken about this because it is so unfair as you have been told for 18 months that it won't involve weekend working. I know you were looking forward to having weekends off at long last! Good luck this afternoon xx

Morning all, we have a 'patchy' sky, lots of cloud but a good breeze so OH will be able to get the washing out for me.

Yesterday I went shopping, not for anything interesting but I bumped into someone I've known for years, that was nice and we were both doing the same thing, buying books from the charity shops plus some boring household stuff.

Today I need to really blitz the kitchen. It is reasonably clean but cluttered so the clutter needs to be itganised and all surfaces scrubbed as opposed to the wiping down that it gets several times a day.

I've cooked most nights since I've been at home but have asked OH to do it tonight and I see that he has lamb chops so I'll be making my own dinner. I can have a mushroom omelette, excellent.

I am still in feeling like I'm on holiday mode and enjoying this, I will need to organise myself but not quite yet.

TA I am pretty sure that I've heard other people say that Fortisip is quite hard to get used to, not always palatable. I was wondering if Mr TA might be able to manage fish pie? That's soft and digestible but not everyone likes fish of course.

Dumpling I'm envious if your meal out by the sea, I was brought up in a coastal area and love the sound and sight of the sea. So naturally I now live in just about the furthest from the sea place possible. We don't have holidays as such but I might go and see the sea at some point.

I really must get some jobs done, time to gird my loins. See you all later, hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Hopefully the sun will come out in a short while

    Morning folks.

It's dull and cold here. A ton of rain fell overnight again, the lawn in the back garden is almost green again!

https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/74430272#Comment_74430272 is the latest addition to the front 'garden'. Perfect for resting glasses and bottles. There's a knot hole in one edge which can nestle a bottle beautifully.

Yes, my DM is a worry. There will soon be a need for more time spent with her in the future. For now she's very independent and resilient. After her bad spell and a weekend of TLC she's off to an art exhibition in Paisley with a long-standing friend. I shan't worry too much.

My roasted chicken broke the lovely old M&S ceramic dish yesterday. It cracked wide open right across the middle width wise. Luckily the chicken was in a roasting bad so no nasty mess to clean up. Just sad about the useful blue dish.

Now I'm off to Campbeltown to meet with a kind colleague. Monday's nightmare is looming and I have sort things out. The drive is about 1.5 hours so I've got a travel mug of tea to take.

I wish everyone a happy Wednesday.
  • AOD - yes I tried him with a fish pie, with the fish cut small, without success sadly. In fact I have tried him with lots of things which, to me, sounds easily digested but to him it's not. I have never, ever binned so much food before. He quite likes the Fortisip compact vanilla, whizzed with ice cream and fortified milk. Similarly the Aymes strawberry shake powder. But anything savoury I have made with the neutral Fortisip makes him feel sick and goes in the bin!
