BT extending contract and misconduct by manager

Hello all could use some advice,
I was leaving the country last year and wanted to cancel my contract but it would have cost me as much as the remaining bills. I agreed to move the internet to a friends house and pay the bill till the end of the contract. Instead they carried on charging me above the original contract for a further 6 months. When I phoned to complain the manager repeatedly tried to get me to agree that it was resolved if he waived the 30 day notice period, and I had to repeatedly say that I wanted it cancelled but I disagree that it is resolved, this kind of underhand disgraceful approach cannot be accepted practice no?

The contract doesn't just end, so if you did not cancel it at the end of the 6 months then BT would have carried on charging you. All that happened is the minimum term ended and from that point you were free to leave with 30 days notice. It is down to you to cancel. It doesn't seem from what you have said that they have extended the contract.0
