I came upon this will searching out information on bank accounts for teenagers and thought it was very useful and will certainly be showing it to my kids.

What happens if you die ?
Credit Card Debt? Loan Debt?
Would be very interested to find out.0 -
I want to give my nephew a printed copy of the teen cash guide but when I look at it on screen, it seems to have some words missing or sentences just stop when I'd expect there to be some more (as there's no full stop or the sentence isn't complete).
Is it something wrong with my computer or with the pdf?
E.g. - page number 29 of the guide (which is page 33 of the pdf) - big yellow box in the middle of the page - last line doesn't make sense. It looks like there should be another line.
Thanks

It's not just you, it's the same on the copy that I downloaded. I agree that small hiccups like this could do with fixing, but it's a fantastic resource nevertheless.
I teach at a sixth form college and we do do a bit on finance (mainly for students going off to university) in Year 13 tutorial sessions. Your PDF isn't used for this at present, but last year I downloaded a copy and emailed it to the relevant members of staff, and it's been put on the Student Finance page of our college's VLE (Moodle). Whether it will actually be built into the teaching plan, though, I don't know.
My subject is Maths, including some Level 2 stuff (Adult Numeracy / Functional Skills / GCSE resits) and we do try to build a bit of financial awareness into those courses, but it's hard to find the time to put much emphasis on it when time is so tight and there's so much focus on exam results.0 -
I've just come across this and thought to pass it on to my DGD's and DGS, so read it through thoroughly first. I thought I was penny-savvy but this really is amazing, it even taught me a thing or two - proving the old saying 'you can't teach a dog....' etc etc isn't strictly true..:rotfl:
Have saved it for myself to read through periodically, and sent the link to my DD for the children.
Re probs with printing, I've saved it to my comp, if she wants to print it at least it's saving my ink! (Naughty - or savvy - grandma  )0 -
Hi Martin,
I work for an education consultancy company which specialises in distance learning. The Teen Cash Class is GREAT but the one thing it is in desperate need of is some activities. If the reader can work out the the answers to various tasks themselves it will have a bigger impact on them as well as being more memorable.
As a side-line to our consultancy work we are about to launch our website which offers free resources and courses to students, including 'life skills' one of which is a student finance course.
If you are interested in some further free advice and speaking about activities for distance learning (i.e. when readers download the guide from the web) or formulating some lesson plans to match the national curriculum for teachers to use face to face, Please contact me via the forums.0 -
Hello
I am looking for the best student accounts in terms of interest paid, freebies etc.
However, the 'student accounts' I have read about are focused on university students not sixth form students (aged 16-19 who are studying A Level). This is the area in which I'm interested, as I am looking to give the best advice to my students at school.
Is this covered on moneysavingexpert.com, as I can't find it?
Or does anyone know where I can find this information?
Thank you

...as a teacher of 15 yrs experience, i have been saying for years that the secondary curriculum needs a MAJOR overhaul, getting rid of some of the irrelevant academia that only serves to demotivate large numbers of students, replacing it with 21st century teaching of 21st century issues, such as parenting skills and finance. Only through education can we change the future for the better, and your program & notes are a great starting point. It would be great to see it extended into a scheme of work and lesson plans, involving more videos and interaction with ML, to fit in with the governments 'optional' finance teaching in schools. I, and I'm sure many other 'finacially prudent' teachers, would love to be involved in the production of such a valuable resource. Let me know!! Meantime, thanks again.0

Loyalty CAN pay-if you use it as a bargaining chip to get a better deal:
"I have been a customer of yours for x years/months-surely that counts for something towards a better price than someone completely new?"
If nothing is forthcoming-THEN move on!0
