Money Moral Dilemma. Should Sharon pay to clean Tracey up?

  • Sharon is sat down drinking her red wine when her favourite song comes on and she gets up to dance. Being a responsible drinker she prefers to sip her drinks and not down them quickly but her glass is still fairly full, so she leaves it on the side and goes to dance.
As the club is fairly crowded, somebody manages to spike her drink, while she's dancing, without anyone noticing. Oh dear!
  • So wot if you would have been someone else that spilt the wine over her! Would she have demanded them to pay up there and then! NO DON'T THINK SO-they would have decked her on the spot!!! These things happen on a daily basis and after all its only a stain on an entire outfit that can be replaced, not worth arguing about and losing a friend over it...

"If Sharon was in 99% of nightclubs in the UK the bouncers would have waded in and manhandled her off the dancefloor for taking a drink on there in the first place"

    Response

I own and run a small night club and we have to specially employ security staff to stand on the dance floor asking people not to take drinks on the dance floor for spillage sake, people slipping or knocking into other people such as mentioned here

The amount of abuse from custombers to the security staff when asked not to take drinks on the dance floor is unbelievable so I think it is very misinformed to say "bouncers would of manhandled her" Untrue and unlikey as they would have a case against security staff if they did touch or manhandle them

To show another side to this argument a woman once split a drink on herself in our place and tried to sue us for that happening. Unfortunately we live in a blame-claim culture but sometimes you have to take responsibility for your own actions. An apology, offer of replacement drink and to take care of cleaning bill would be simple manners and what I would do if I knocked a drink onto someone...though in real life experience of general public in those circumstance I have a feeling the woman would try and get some money out of the club claiming it was their fault

"what if she accidently looses her balance while walking to the loos or the bar and falls onto spilt alcohol or dirt on the floor - will Tracey try to insist the nightclub pay for her cleaning bill?"

    Reply

Oh believe me she would do just that and then try to claim against them for personal injury too! One incident I must share with you is a woman trying to sue our club as "A cigarette machine fell on her causing severe injury" Yes a good case...except we don't have a cigarette machine on the premises! I had to pay for solicitors to answer her insurance company yet she was on a no win no fee deal and didn't pay a penny for making this claim up does anyone think this is fair?

Drinks shouldn't be allowed on the dance floor. Simple.

Totally agree! I fell over on a dance floor once because someone had spilled beer and it hadn't been mopped up and I broke my wrist

I successfully sued the establishment concerned for £9K

I'm old, so don't go to discos, night clubs etc. When young we had great fun at dances, even jiving in corners! I never saw anyone drinking on the floor, (though, of course, we didn't have drugs, esp. date rape ones), anyone starting to get aggressive was taken out, we girls often wore white, and thank god I'm not young any more. Sharon should pay.

white top and skirt.....AND SHE DRINKS RED WINE??

ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN I SAY
  • Asking for trouble to take wine onto a dance floor. Do the decent thing and pay up!

Some of the nightclubs I have been to Sharan would have been glassed for that, however Tracey should take it on the chin, its hardly likely to be an armani frock now is it, more like a throw away from Primark.
I think Primark clothes tend to be machine washable! Nobody in their right mind (even now that smoking in clubs is banned) wears a white outfit to a nightclub and expects it to stay clean and fresh ready for another night without washing/ cleaning.
That said, drinks should not be taken onto the dancefloor. In my area, part of the DJ's job is to remind the clientele of this common-sense rule if he or another member of staff spots someone with a drink on the dancefloor. Yes, there are risks involved in leaving drinks unattended, but if you're in a group you take turns to keep an eye on everyone's drinks.
Sharon should apologise and buy Tracy a drink and learn her lesson. Tracy should take care of her own cleaning.
If the club has failed to make it clear to customers that drinks are not allowed on the dancefloor, then Tracy should ask them (in writing, when she's sober) to do so in future. Glasses on the dancefloor are an accident waiting to happen. She's lucky it was just wine and not blood.
