Yes, if it had obviously been clocked. But it hasn't been.
Even if it had been they wouldn't be interested in taking on an individual case....speaking from experience here

Maybe though speak to him first?
Or at least have a garage look at it in case it's something stupid like a sensor

out of interest has the car had a lot of previous owners? It seems to have been MOT'd every 6 months for 3 years which I assume is so it could be sold on with a fresh MOT.

Almost certainly a taxi they have to be tested every six months

I messaged the seller this afternoon telling him about the problem and that I wanted either a full refund or an agreement that he would pay for the repairs. I quoted the sales of goods act as per consumer direct advice. The seller has replied with
"Sorry to hear that. I buy and sell. I bought it from Luton.idrove it from there to Birmingham without any problem. Also been driving in Birmingham. You drove it your self to derby.there was nothing wrong with the car. "

At least hes admitted in writing that he buys and sells cars.
I've replied back saying as a trader I have more rights and It's not on to be left with an undrivable car after driving 100 miles when I've paid £5000. I've reiterated that I want him to refund or repair and told him I've found a garage that's been recommended that specialise in automatic gearboxes that will look it over as soon as I can get it towed there. He hasn't replied since.

I've done an online submission form to citizens advice who've said they may also refer it to trading standards.

About half of county court judgements go unpaid. This will be one of the unpaid ones, I'm afraid.
I agree, this shyster isn't going to pay. Expect his mobile number will swiftly become unobtainable.

Trading Standards don't involve themselves with individual complaints, they do get involved if they receive multiple complaints.

Either way, the OP is unlikely to get a refund or repairs...
