Their menu shows a 10% gratuity, so £27 for 2 drinks?

2 cocktails would be in that ball park, 2 beers on the other hand would be about half that..

Two glasses of wine at £8 plus gratuity is £17.60 which is what I believe we should have been charged. I presume they got our table mixed up

For the sake of the difference £10 I would put it down to experience and learn for next time. Phone calls, emails, prove it scenarios etc will take a lot of time. On way back fro next conference call into an off license and get a decent bottle of wine for £8 and get 2 glasses each!!! Lol....

I understand your point. However large retailers should not be allowed to act in this way. I am happy to send off an email if it helps more people retain their rights in return.

So do it out of principle for you - it'll make not a jot of difference to how they operate given the number/turnover of staff and environment in which they operate (presumably a fairly busy Saturday night late in the shift)

A quick check of the online drinks list shows wine from £11 - £13 per glass - where did your £8 come from ?

Your time to complain was then and if you didn't take the opportunity to check before authorising then more fool you.

    Playing devils advocate

You were presented with the card machine, showing the total and paid. I really don't see how you can argue this was an unauthorised payment, If claiming an overcharge you would be asked to present your bill for evidence of what you should have paid.

otherwise what is to stop me going into a bar, drinking 10 pints, paying the bill and then a few days later saying I only had 1 give me my money back?

I suspect you might get a goodwill gesture from the hotel but if they don't I really don't see how you can expect to win

We had access to discount as we were staying in the hotel. Thanks everyone but I am not a liar

Not one person has called you a liar.

That could well be the issue, the Discount wasn't applied which wouldn't be a chargeback thing, did the bar staff know you were staying?
