Pet Problem

Please excuse the ramble. Our dog has developed kennel cough so the kennels we use when we go on holiday have refused to take her. As we cannot find an alternative way to board her while we are away we have had to cancel the holiday.
This situation is not covered by our existing policy.
Anyone got any ideas on insuring against such an event or a travel policy that would include such an event?
Thanks

  • I might be talking nonsense - but I think an insurer might consider adding a clause to cover such, but that would obviously be raising the risk factor and the premium.

Ask your existing insurer for advice.

Wouldn't vaccinating your dog prevent this situation from occuring?

Can you confirm that you mean for future holidays? you will not be able to insure for the holiday you need to cancel now.
You would be best asking in the Insurance forum but you would need some sort of high cost 'cancel for any reason' insurance or book refundable flights/accommodation

    She has been vaccinated.
Kennel cough is like the common cold, too mant variants. All the vaccine does is diminish the severity.

    Thank you for your comment..

Yes, it will be future holidays. This incidence has just drawn my attention to the fact that we are not covered..

    Fair enough.
    I wasn't sure... now I know
    Hope she's better soon

Can you find a friend or neighbour to take him? Or one of these one to one dog sitters?

CHeck your pet insurance. I know mine covers me for cancelled holidays if my dog is ill. Don't know if it would cover kennel cough though.

Cover on pet insurance for cancelling your holiday normally only applies if the dog needs life saving treatment.

It might be worth checking yours so you don't get any surprises

One of my vets used to take dogs who were ill or elderly in for boarding.

When we go on holiday we are getting someone to come to our house regularly and look after all our pets.
Apart from having to trust someone to come into your house (and if you use someone reputable they are covered for any issues), wouldn't this have been a better option than cancelling the holiday?
