VW scrappage scheme ending
Options
The Vw scrappage scheme ends 29th of June 2018 if you are waiting for your new Vw and not using finance you are being asked to pay the full balance before 27/06/2018 or you will not get the scrappage !!!
I am in this situation but there is not a delivery date for my vehicle
So Vw want me to hand over 27k and wait for ??? To get my car Which was ordered on 20th Jan or lose the 4K scrappage
Any ideas

Seems simple enough - either cancel the order or pay for the car in full.
Wouldnt annoy me paying for the car in advance particularly if it was saving me £4K.0 -
What reason have they given for the delay in delivery? What car is it?
The imminent deadline for all new cars having to pass the stricter WLTP emissions means that there are production delays for quite a few manufacturers. Combine that backlog with factory summer closures, and it's quite probably that the delay will not be a short one. So it's your choice - pay now and get the £4k, pay when the car is deliveed and don't get the £4k, or cancel the order.
I presume they don't have anything stock that they can transfer your order to, perhaps at the loss of the precise spec you've factory ordered?0 -

The O/P didnt say the car was delayed over what was originally anticipated?
Some VWs are running at 40 week lead times, depending on model and engine configuration.0 -
Unless VW's scrappage scheme is different to every other manufacturer scrappage scheme I tried (Ford, NIssan, Hyundai, Renault) it's just a marketing tactic. There is no 3rd party funding for the manufacturer for taking on your old car. It's is a marketing campaign to give you the discount you'd get anyway by haggling.
Complain to the dealer and I bet you will get the same "dealer discount" anyway.0 -

You wont. As Adrian has said, it an incentive that comes from VW UK, not from the dealer themselves.
If VW UK chose to withdraw it on a specific date they can and will.0 -
You're right, but the big difference is the source of the money. The "scrappage" is coming from VWUK, not from the dealer's own margin.
I know that's what they say, but I honestly wonder about that. Through Carwow I did quite a lot of negotiating with dealers.
Although a couple of them said "Enquire about scrappage" in their original offers, none of them would then add scrappage to their own discount. They would only withdraw their dealer offer and then recalculate with the esoteric "scrappage" offer, which always mysteriously worked out almost the same. There was next to no enthusiasm at all for me to apply for it, making me wonder if they also just get lumbered with the customers banger to get rid of.
Two Hyundai dealers told me not to bother with Hyundai's scrappage offer as it didn't allow them to discount as much as they could do without it. If it really were free money from the manufacturer to offer a killer deal they should be all over it, but none of them are.
Someone else online found this and emailed the manufacturer direct to ask what was going on. They were assured that the scrappage was additional to the dealer offer, but also couldn't find a single dealer to honour this.0 -
you would be mad to pay £20k odd upfront with no car to show for it.0

You are right but it is only most dealers who will remove or reduce their cash discount quote when you mention scrappage.
However some are prepared to add the VW £4,000 scrappage to their discount.
In my case it happened that the dealer who offered the best cash discount was also one of those who would then add the £4,000 on top.0
