Yes I think it can be but obviously depends on the reason. If one party is adamant it's over then you can't force them to stay but if it's a case of x needs to change or I'm leaving... Maybe that's a desperate call to be listened to.
I think in a strong relationship this shouldn't happen out the blue. If you communicate well there shouldn't be any surprises because issues would have been discussed before it gets to breaking point.

It will depend on circumstance. I'd been with my boyfriend 5 years and he had been battling depression, he was starting to get better but our intimacy had suffered and he told me he had started to see me more like a friend than a girlfriend. I convinced him not to give up on us. The lack if intimacy was because of him pushing me away and I reassured him this would improve particularly if he felt better. He actually didbt believe we would move oast him even mentioning it and i assured him we would and we have. We've now been together 10 years and are married and very happy.

It depends on the reasons for the talk. We were still happy in each other's company and had a fairly long relationship for our ages (and we were living together). Neither of us had our eye on anyone else. If the reasons behind the talk can be fixed, and you both want it to be then relationships can continue happily
