....of tree branches. How is it done?
It's something I should have given some thought to before I started hacking away! The branches are too big to get into the car, so I can't take them to the tip. They're not suitable for firewood because I cannot heart on hand say that they are completely dry. Unlike grass clippings and dead leaves, I doubt they are going to compost down in a hurry. And the local garden waste collection is chargeable and expensive, so I'd much rather avoid it if I can.
Other than spending time chopping these branches into sections small enough for transportation, what are my options?

Short answer.......none.
I am sure somebody will be along with a very long complex solution !!0 -
If there is not that much of it the only cost effective option is to chop it up and take to the tip. 1M square builders bags come in handy in this circumstance.
If there is a lot and you are going to be doing this twice a year for decades then even an electric shredder/chipper becomes very handy but £££.
Bottom end of the market starts at Something like

Depends on the diameter and length as well as how much twiggy bits & leaves are attached.
If it is scrappy, crappy bits, stack them to dry and have a bonfire first week of November.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

People with log burners are often misers, they will do anything for free wood; chop it up with their chain saw and then store it. At least that is my view
