If you have freezer space, have you thought about feeding raw? I use a company that supplies raw mince in 100g portions so I defrost what I need each day. They include taurine in their cat recipes. A 5kg cat would be fed 100-150g per day and it would work out about £20-25 per month. https://www.lunaandme.com/product-category/cats-and-kittens/bare/

Bitiba is the zooplus sister site. It's a bit cheaper, but you need to spend more for free postage

My cats also like Animonda Carny.

I currently have no freezer space, otherwise I would try the raw food for Greebo-cat. ( Greebo-cat eats our raw and cooked meat and fish trimmings, as well as what he catches himself. ) You-Cat eates nothing unless from a tin.

Hi-life is very good, but expensive. There was a terrible cat-erwailing when they discontinued their seafood assortment!
  • I have been looking everywhere for some unbiased info about this. Most sites have a vested interest in you using their expensive cat food, or have doting owners saying only the best for my pet. I love my cats but I don't want to be exploited either. They have to have a minimum of 4% of the declared meat on the packet for dried food and most have exactly that. The rest of the food I assume is mostly made from offal/reclaimed meat which I have no problem with. You can look up the protein content on the packet which gives you some indication of the meat content.
My old cats had more specialist foods but my latest 2 rescue cats are only 20 months old and will eat most things but prefer the expensive ones. They are happy with the Lidl Coshida food which is very cheap, but don't much like Asda Tiger. I heard a vet on the radio saying they used to feed cats horse meat and they lived just as long on it as cats do now.

Reclaimed meat is still meat. Offal is vital for cats.

Most cheap foods are padded out with cereals which cats do not need.

No cat should have a purely dry food diet.
