Good quality, inexpensive, cat food?

I'm currently spending £40 per month on MACs from zooplus for my cat. I used to spend £30 at Happy Kitty Company, but it's shut down now.

I was wondering if there was a cheaper alternative that was still good quality? Maybe one I can buy from a supermarket/pets at home instead of online?

I buy Sainsbury's Delicious complete cat food in pouches - not sure whether it works out any cheaper than MACs tinned, but it is good quality and my cat loves it because it's "shredded" rather than pate. You could also try HiLife "It's Only Natural" which you can buy fairly reasonably on Amazon.

I would suggest going to ZooBio (I found Zoobio cheaper shipping wise than other options) and sticking with Mac's as its good stuff. I buy the 800g cans which are really good value but unavailable from Zooplus, its about £2 a tin, and then put it in a tupperware in the fridge. I have 3 cats so it goes down quick but it was fine when I only had 2 so Im sure for one itll be fine too! an 800g can gets me either 6 or 8 meals, depending on the season/the heat/their appetites.

The shipping jumps after 30kg I think so I stock up as much as I can get for the 30kg
  • Animonda Carny is a very good wet cat food. Contains only meat.
    So is Smilla, meat only.
    Both are available at Zooplus.

I'd suggest you buy a small pack of either with your next regular purchase of MAC's, just to make sure, your cat likes it. Good ingredients don't guarantee your cat will love it. My mum's cat prefers junk cat food and no matter what we do, she refuses to eat anything but the low quality cat food. About to be 15 years old, the old !!!!!! :)

Butchers cat food is a very good but cheap cat food.
But pre internet days, I fed all my cats on Whiskas or kitekat, they all lived until at least their late teens, only a couple of age related health problems.

Thanks for this information, I hadn't heard of Zoobio, cat is diabetic, getting him low carb stuff including mac so this is very helpful to me.

I hadnt heard of them either but once HappyKittyCompany went I had to get googling. It does come from abroad but the shipping was super fast, no little mouse toy though! I shall have to go find them all from underneath beds/shelves/fireplaces so they don't run out of toys!

I've tried Tesco, Sainsburys, and Morrisons own brand cat food. my cat of about 5 kgs didn't like Tescos, ok with Sainsburys, but much prefers Morrisons - and it must be 'gravy' - about £2.50 for 12. Unfortunately, she also likes boiled fish - she's has/had gastric problems - which is £2.20 for eight!
I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard

With 'various sugars' and only 4.23% ingredients actively declared, I'd personally steer clear.

Whilst they only have to declare the minimum, they only declare a minimum of 4% meat. MACS (what the OP was looking for an alternative to) declares 70%...
