Query-using 3rd party insurer for full cover on hire car(Do they always pay out ?)

Hello,,

This is a query relating to the use of a third party insurance product to fully cover all damage on a hire car. The car hire will be via Avis in Menorca in case anyone has individual experience of this company/location Mahon airport)

As we know, at the collection desk, they will offer their own insurance product to fully cover the vehicle. If you dont accept it, they will pre authorise your credit card for a big wadge of money to cover themselves should there be any damage.

Leaving aside all the caveats about damage reports, checking and photographing vehicles,,

Consider this scenario...

A hire car is returned and when you get home, you find that the hire company has deducted £600 for alleged damage whether you dispute it or not.

You inform your third party insurance company and leave it to them to deal with.

We cannot assume (or can we?) that the third party insurance co will settle all claims and you will receive a cheque within a month or two !

Is anyone aware of instances where the 3rd pty insurer, after due deliberation, refuses to accept the damage claim and/or otherwise disputes it thus leaving you, the customer out of pocket??

Also ,can anyone recommend a third party insurance company they have used and had good service from?

Thanks all
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

You need to get an invoice for the CDW excess that you are being charged, from the hire firm, and present that to your independent insurance provider. It's easier if you obtain it before leaving, of course, but they must provide the invoice to justify the charge otherwise you can have it reversed by your credit card company.
