car damaged while parked
Need some advice please.. Today i have had the pleasure of someone damaging the rear bumper and rear quarter panel of my car while they were pulling away from a parking space behind me. The driver did stop and we exchanged contact info, but not insurance info. the driver said he would pay a reasonable amount for the damage but didn't want to go through insurance.
so, is it worth trusting that he will pay the repair bill? or just go via my insurance and give them his info and car registration?

Claim direct from his insurance will be the best bet.0

You'll almost certainly be required to tell your insurance that you've had an accident whether you claim or not (and not telling them would be fraud).
I wouldn't be risking it although be aware your premiums may go up even though you weren't at fault. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

He probably thinks a reasonable amount is £50-100, not the £1000+ that it will cost to do properly, and although he may fully intend to pay now, he likely won't want to pay the actual cost.
You can quickly get a quote and see if he will pay, and if he won't in a very short time claim from his insurance.
you should of course notify your insurer for "information purposes" ( so that they can increase your premium) even if you don't claim through them.
You can later change this into a claim if he won't cough upI want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Many moons ago a young lad drove into the back of me at pulling off speed & his dad said he would pay for the repairs rather than going through the insurance.
Anyway got a quote & then he changed his mind when he saw it.
Also, if he does decide to pay it personally I'd want cleared funds in my account before I proceeded with the repair0 -

If the 3rd party is keen to pay, they can re-imburse their insurance company, don't inconvenience yourself more than necessary, realistically, a repair is not going to be cheap other than a smart repair.0 -
Have you checked to see if the vehicle he was driving was actually insured? The driver did stop and we exchanged contact info, but not insurance info. the driver said he would pay a reasonable amount for the damage but didn't want to go through insurance.

I wouldn't rely on them paying for repairs.0

Yes, that's my thinking too, but its a small 5 year old car and the damage is a scrape to the extreme end of the bumper and a dent/crease to the wheel arch, so £1000 may be a bit extreme.you should of course notify your insurer for "information purposes" ( so that they can increase your premium) even if you don't claim through them.
