VirginMedia aggresive marketing

I've finally had enough!

I've been a VirginMedia customer for many years as in our area it's the only option for fibre broadband. As such I take out their basic TV, phone and fibre deal.

Every few months they post me an offer about Virgin Mobile, offering me all sorts of handset and sim deals that I'm not interested in.

I called and told them I'd prefer they didn't send them.

I've been posting those back for some time when they kept coming and they seem to have stopped.

Then the phone calls started. Every couple of months a foreign call centre contacts me about my VM service. I decline what they're offering and ask to be removed from the contact list.

Then GDPR came along, so I again declined to be on the marketing list.

Yesterday I got the usual VM call from 0800 183 6408 and this time I thought to myself, is it even really them? I've looked the number up and can see an official VM response on their own website notes it is their number.

SO I asked the person on the other end if they could give ME any detail from the account so I knew it was actually VirginMedia? He swore at me and hung up.

Then today I got ANOTHER call from them this morning. I explained what happened yesterday and was fobbed off with the "we can't tell you due to data protection" etc excuse, so I asked how am I supposed to believe it's really Virgin Media then? She offered to tell me what package I subscribed to, but I figured the basic package is probably what most people have!?

Anyway, she promised to take me off the marketing list...

SO you can imagine my frustration when not even 2 hours later VirginMedia call me AGAIN! Twice in one morning to try and flog me a mobile phone service I don't want!

Are they just going to keep calling until I say yes!?!?

I can't even find a relevant topic to make a complaint to them as it's not about TV and I'm not an existing mobile customer!

Needless to say I think this is the last year I'll be renewing my contract with them and it's time to switch to BT.

The employee's in the British and Indian call centers are a bunch of clowns, however there on line chat support team are superb.

Seems I won't try the online chat:

"Sorry, the team are currently unavailable, please try again during our opening times."

Despite the posted opening times being 9am - 5pm today and it's currently 14:39....

Try not answering unrecognised numbers? It might sound a little smug but I am never hassled by this sort of call because a long time ago I decided not to answer any calls I don't recognise.

Anybody wants to speak to me from an unrecognised number they can leave a message which I will reply to or not, as I wish.

Woke me up this morning with a marketing text at 2:32 AM!

I run a home business, so unrecognised numbers are usually customers!
Not answering my phone would put me out of business!

Well, switch your phone off overnight! If you rely on it as an alarm clock, don't. I'm sure alarm clocks are available for a couple of quid.:p

Consider a payg sim plus a mobile for just for this purpose, give the number to Virgin, if they call you wont mistake them for a customer.

Yes and no, I was shamed for not being comfortable with taking a job with them recently as I am on benefits, (to be clear I wanted part time and didn't say no to the offer of work but didn't like the idea of working for them)

From the interview and discussion on site the company has very high targets to reach and few can do this, and they take on a lot of school leavers.

Its also probably not a good sign when I have been out of work years and they offered me a job so easily!

I have them as a ISP, have been having internet cut outs recently and I phoned the call centre and it seems all the tech support now is Indian, I was told in slow broken English to reboot router, 3 times, to test my mobile to see if wifi worked, after 3rd reset of router and 4th reboot of it the line went quiet for 5 minutes and he finally offered an engineer visit!

I have a few horror stories about Virgin Media which mean I'd rather stick my head in a wood chipper than ever take TV/phone/broadband services from them!
