When SMETS 2 come out, will the 'display' be a smartphone app instead of a standalone gizmo?


I asked for a meter reading off my friend who still lives at the house we own together, where we recently got a SMETS 1 installed purely for a £50 Amazon bribe, and couldn't believe it when she sent me a photo of the reading on a standalone piece of kit for it. Even ignoring the fact that this is just another thing that needs electricity to charge, the environmental impact of manufacturing unnecessary electronic junk (USE A GOD DAMN APP!) makes me weep. Ofgem, by forcing these onto people, are being completely environmentally illiterate.
