Car insurance hike up by £1800 after a minor accident! fair?!

I've shopped around before but still found Direct Line the cheapest previously, probably not now with the hike so will shop around!
I think we've just renewed though so we can't leave until that year is up I believe (or leave but still pay for it!)
In my experience Directline are never the cheapest or even close - they are not on comparison sites for a reason.
You probably will have to pay to leave, but I suspect it will be a lot less then £1800.0 -

Yes I'm complaining about the value, the fact we've not been kept up to date at all and the incredible hike of the annual price. I'm not an expert so perhaps £1100 is a decent price, but to me it sounds ridiculous when it was just a tiny bump and tiny crack...
New bumper, respray, car hire... which these days will be full rate £100 a day plus vat and it soon adds up
There also might have been damage to suspension........also crack in somebody else's bumper is always new bumper crack in your bumper when it's your fault is always body filler and patch sprayed which is way cheaper0 -

Or don't want to be compared..... a number of times I have made the extra effort involved in getting a quote from them only for it to be 30%+ higher then I can get elsewhere.0 -

Fortunately according to Direct Line my current house doesn't exist. Sso since we moved here I have been released from the miserable experience of filling out pages of information to get a quote that's 50% more than everyone else wants to charge me.0 -

Arrrr DIRECT, I remember that was the buzz word on the late 90's, it made all the customers feel like they are getting a good deal....much like the word "scrappage" now !

I wouldn't be surprised if there is also a claim for whiplash injury made in the not too distant future. (not that this will impact the OP any further).0

The insurer has decided that the cost of the next claim that is now a much higher risk as you've just had a fault claim, and which may involve life changing injuries to the victim leading to a six or seven figure bill, could be more than they are willing to bear and have priced the renewal to enourage you to leave. What's the point in insurance if the hike in price is more than the cost of the claim   :sad:Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -

They don't aim to compete on price, so what would be the point in being on a comparison site? If you see their adverts, they're concentrating on the quality of their products. They must doing something right, since the group currently insure about one car in six in the UK.
I should make clear that I have no connection with DL. Quite the reverse - I'm a shareholder in a competitor.0 -
I don't understand this. Have you renewed the policy at the cost of £1800?foxy-stoat wrote: »No, they increased the premium by £1800 at renewal is how I read it so its going to be north of £2000.
I read it as the OP's husband has already paid his renewal of whatever + £1,800 which is ridiculous if they've actually paid that.
If they have paid it then complaining after the fact is even worse.0
