Flight Cancelled - Looking for advice

Hello I went skiing in April to Val Thorens, on my way out Heathrow to Geneva my flight was delayed by a over an hour eventually got on it, then delayed on the runway because of computer issues on the aircraft eventually an engineer came on board and fixed it. Got in the air just out of london air space and it had a hydraulic fault with the controls we quickly turn around and do a very ropepay landing back at heathrow (there was fire engine waiting for us and followed us off the run way.. )
Besides all the excitement.. we get taken of the plane had to go all the way back though security.. collect our luggage which took forever to come out.. then book on to a new flight complementrly of course... but the next flight they could get us on was at 5pm i was ment to be in Geneva at 11am.. missed my booked bus transfer to my resort... that was at 1pm.. and because it was late season there was not another till the next day.. So i hired a car, costing a lot as im only 24 and dont have a credit card... so i had to take extra insurance ect..
it actually ended up costing more than my portion of the holiday..
I have emailed SWISS regarding this and they have told me they cant do anything for me ?
Im out of pocket some ware in the region of £500 due to car and parking fees..
Where do i stand can i get any compensation for this ?

with the first point I suggest you speak to your travel insurance re consequential losses
put your flight details through a couple of the NWNF flight checkers - EUClaim and bottonline. If they say there is a claim, google 'Vaubans Guide'0 -
