Faulty TV after 2 years

Hi, I have tried searching the sticky post and the forums but can't see a similar thread but apologies in advance if I missed it, please direct me to the right thread.
I purchased a Samsung TV at the end of Feb 2016 so this is 2 years and 4 months old give or take, from Currys/ PC World. I purchased for £900. It has developed a fault where the lower half of the screen is a lot darker than the top half and is making it difficult to watch. I called Samsung and they said as there was no extended warranty they would charge for repair.
I am yet to get in touch with Currys PC World but wanted to know where I stood and the best way to deal with this in advance.
I saw Martin's programme last night and I feel that this falls into the reasonable time category, in that I should expect a £900 TV to work for longer that 2 years and 4 months. Is this right or are there any guidelines that I can point to? My expectation is that Currys will say that you purchased no extended warranty and therefore tough luck, you need to pay for the repair. I'm not looking for a refund or necessarily a replacement but just a repair.
Has anyone been through this before or can point me to some useful info on this please?

You'd need a report to say its inherently faulty or failed from manufacturing defect. It might cost as much as a repair! Did you pay on Credit Card?0

Feb 2016, so the Consumer Rights Act 2015 applies. After 6 months from purchase the seller can require the consumer to commission an engineer's report to ascertain whether the cause of the fault was inherent. (Present at the time of purchase but not obvious - e.g. a dry solder joint). If this report states that (on the balance of probabilities) the fault was inherent then:
a) The seller is obliged to offer a remedy (Repair, Replace [with a working product of the same specification, age and condition], or refund [which can be reduced to account for time of ownership])
b) Refund the reasonable cost of the report
That's the legal position. The seller may not require you to commission a report, but they can legally do so. Either way the remedies (if they accept the fault) are as per a).0 -
Who do I get such a report from? As M0bov stated, is this likely to cost the same as the repair?0

From the posts we've previously had on here, currys might offer to send a repair engineer for around £90 - the cost of which they will refund you if the issue is inherent.
If you prefer an independent report, it can come from anyone qualified to make such a report (such a tv repair shop).You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Who? Have a ring around local Appliance repair shops. Cost should be around £50 - £70 I'd imagine. (Cost to repair may be much higher, depending on what the actual fault is - e.g. if a new display panel is needed).
Might be worth contacting Currys/PCW first though - they might not even ask for one.0 -
So called Currys PC World support line which is run by KnowHow and selected the options and was told that support is done directly from Samsung, which going back to my original post said I'd have to pay to repair. Called the repair centre number they gave me and they'll charge £50 collection and delivery (they're 1.5 hour drive away) and then £50 inspection fee where they'll give an estimate for cost of repair.
Also had a look online for other people that have had a similar issue and it has cost £500 for a screen replacement. At these prices it's looking like might just be worth buying a new TV.
Still feel like this is too soon for a TV to be failing.0 -
Currys/PCW are telling you their policy ... you need to be firm and explain your rights under the CRA 2015.
If you can't do this then you may just have to roll over and accept it. But the more people do this the more Currys/PCW get away with avoiding their legal obligations.0 -
Why buy from Currys when JL offer free 5 year warranty and RS offer 6 year warranty.0
