I bought my boyfriend a private reg plate just a month ago. I am the purchaser and have hold of the V570 and he is a nominee.
He has cheated on me and I want to sell the plates.
Can anyone advise if i can sell the plates if they are assigned to his car?

You would first need to move the plate off the car (onto retention, form V778) and pay the £80 fee - with his permission - then sell it.0

He is currently a nominee on the V750.
If i was to change the nominee to someone else, would he have to remove the plates?0 -
Is the reg still on the V750? Or is it transferred onto a car?
If on a car which is registered in his name, then it's his plate, and you can do nothing about it without his agreement and co-operation.
If on the V750 still, then if his name is shown as nominee, it's still his plate.0 -

Legally yes, but if OP has the V750 she could use the reference number to transfer private number to a.n.other car. £80 fee "A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

They're not yours to sell, they're his as you bought them as a gift for him. You gave up all rights to any ownership when you handed the gift over. Even if you had the paperwork to do it you could end up in trouble for theft. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. So what you want to do is transfer the plates off his car then he gets stopped for driving with false plates? Nice.0

If they're on a vehicle then when you remove them, it will be sent to the RK of that vehicle.
Also, going off previous experience of swapping plates/cars around....the reference numbers you use to apply/transfer/remove a plate are one time use only. You remove the plate, the RK will be sent one new reference for their V5 and another reference for the retention. Once you use the reference on the retention to put the plate onto another car, you can't then use that retention reference again. You keep using that word. OP's post was unclear, perhaps she can clarify who has the V750.
It seemed to me OP bought as a gift, but had fallen out with her BF before handing over the V750?"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I'd disagree it was unclear.casewilliams wrote: »I bought my boyfriend a private reg plate just a month ago. I am the purchaser and have hold of the V570 and he is a nominee.

Not sure how your reply fits in with my post you're quoting though. As I said, reference numbers have all been single use in my experience. But even if OP's v750 reference wasn't single use, when you remove a private plate, the retention certificate is sent to whoever is the RK of the vehicle they were removed from.
ETA: in fact, OP won't be able to take the reg off with the V750 reference even if it wasn't single use. To transfer or retain a plate, you need the v5 reference of the car its on.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
