If you copy and paste from somewhere else it can sometimes happen too.

    Hi eschaton

Our developers cover the whole site, not just the Forum and have several other bigger tasks they're working on at the moment. It is in the backlog though and they're aware of it.
I would have thought "stop the forum software from putting half your forum contributors' posts through a woodchipper" would have been quite high priority.

I can't imagine how much of a fire-in-a-skip the rest of the site's code must be, if this isn't at the top of the pile

Why not send out along with your weekly E-mail a note to all users of idevices instructions on how to turn off smart punctuation!

It is caused when you use "right single quote", in other words a single quote that that curls backwards.

Until it can be fixed if it happens in your post do an edit and replace it with a "straight down" quote like this: '

Sorry - can you say that again in English :D;)

One of the few times it has happened to me ...
I copied some text from somewhere (can't remember where, sorry) and pasted it into the 'reply' box.

When it went all '8217', I copied the text into notepad then saved it in there and copied it back into the reply box - it still gave the error, so I let it be as an unreadable mess!

In the above example the first one is likely to fail but the second one is safe

    It's getting worse.

A post I did last year, about censoring the acute accent, which at the time had only one of the two acute accents censored.

Where do you think that place might be?
    Scunthorpe is still censored!
