Vodafone - upgraded, returned within 14 days but charged

Is it correct that I have to pay for the period of time I had an upgraded phone even though I returned it within the cooling off period? My latest bill is a chunk higher than it should be so assuming that this is what has happened.

Anyone experienced similar?

Yes - the correct tariff for the period it was active. It is stated in the T&Cs

Vodafone may be generous, but there is (otherwise) no automatic "cooling off" period for upgrades. The larger bill may also have something to do with exceeding the pro-rata allowance when the previous contract ended - though never having "upgraded" I'm not entirely sure how that works.
