I just found this thread. There a few too many pages to catch up on but I'd love some advice/reassurance.

I don't know if I'm letting my anxiety get the better of me, I feel a little silly.

My aunt was like "so how much have you got stockpiled for Brexit?" And I'm like "...none?!" And now I'm worried I need a stockpile

I mean. Worse case scenario. November is tinned food month. But generally speaking my aunt is a very sensible and smart person, I trust her.

I've queued up an order of groceries to be delivered for Monday to form a Brexit stockpile but I dont know of theres anything I've forgotten.

I'm single, no kids, one dog. I'm trying to guess what I need but I've never shopped for the apocalypse before so I've got

    5 bags of frozen veg,
    2 packs of bog roll,
2 packs of dog food (that's at least a month maybe two)
4 packs tripe sticks for dog (spoilt brat)
    2 kg rice
    2.5 kg smartprice penne
    2.5 kg smartprice spaghetti
    3 kg wholewheat fusilli
    12 tins soup
    2 pack dried beans
    5 cans healthy beans
    6 cans baked beans
    6 pack noodles
    10 cans tomatoes
    5 packs passata
    12 cans various veg
    4 cans tuna
    5 tubes tom puree
    2 tins hotdogs
    4 packs long life milk
10 jars pasta sauce (various flavours)
4 tins coconut milk for curries
    2 jars curry paste
    3 pack cereal bars
    3 box cereal
Edit: also sanitary towels, stock cubes, multivitamins, fabric conditioner and washi g powder bring added to the list

I've ordered it to arrive Monday so I have time to change it if I've missed something or overbought something but it's about £78 so far so I'm starting to reach my limit for big shops. I've got to eat until Brexit, after all.

I domt really know how to estimate how long that food will last. I guess it depends how much and what fresh veg or other perishable like bread are available after.

I know my aunts also stockpiling batteries and bottled water. Are those likely to be affected?

Many of us keep stocks in - not just for Brexit but for any one of a number of scenarios. For instance, I have minor mobility issues which don't affect me most of the time but mean that I won't want to go out if it is icy. So I always stock up with some extra tins etc. around this time of year so I don't have to venture out. I also live alone and have also been thankful of my cupboards when I have been unwell. I don't consider it to be panicking (as some people will) but common sense and it is actually something I have always done since having a young family in the 70's when my husband lost his job. To be fair it is very old style in the sense that housewives tended to preserve the summer fruit and veg (whether through jams/chutneys/pickling/salting to name a few) to see them through the non-productive winter months. As to what you keep in - that depends on what you eat. I note you don't have a lot of meat products. Some people have tins of stewing steak or Fray Bentos pies but maybe you get your protein from the beans.
I tend not to go for bottled water but batteries are a useful thing to have anyway. I'm personally not planning for siege conditions - just some bits to tide me over if there are any hold-ups in restocking supermarket shelves in the event of customs problems, and also for my own reasons previously stated. Don't forget teabags, or coffee, or whatever is your preferred drink.

    Teabags! Thanks

Yeah I'm trying to cut back on meat but I dont eat a lot of tinned meat anyway and my frozen storage space is limited so I usually eat fresh meat. I'm prepared to go vegan for the first month or so if I have to. I think.

I domt exercise much and am not trying to build muscles: most people need less protein than they think.

I must admit that I don't like much in the way of tinned meat - corned beef is useful though (sandwiches or hash). I'm not sure I am looking at any disruption being long-term so not sure you have to worry too much about "the first month or so" (although I could be wrong). It is, for me, more a case of having things in while it all settles down. Whether it settles into life as we know and love it, or something slightly different, I really think it will be fairly short-lived. although I know there are some concerns for people regarding obtaining medicines.

I don't think you'll have to go vegan, but it wouldn't hurt. Thing is though a lot of the good vegan stuff comes from Germany (Linda Mac & Redwoods/VBites are UK though)

By that time you'll be prepping for the secession of the Republic Of South Yorkshire - no Barnsley chops for you (unless you ask nicely)

Mx make sure you've got your usual shop first then use about a fiver a week to just get in a few extra bits at a time.
If you have more cash to spare even better and add in a bit more.

Sit and write a rough meal plan for a week at least or if you can come up with two even better.Times this by the number of weeks you think you will need and it gives you a basis to start from.

You can do this from the list you have already made see how many meals/portions it all makes for what meals you have in mind then you will know iff you need more of one ingredient or have too much of another HTH :)
