Prepping for Brexit thread

We used to have vast areas of hot houses producing tomatoes and even peppers back in the 1970s/80s where we lived in Hampshire there were and still are so very many abandoned glasshouse complexes that have been left to deteriorate and grow wild because the low price of imports and the low prices that the supermarkets were prepared to pay for home grown produce from the UK meant the growers went out of business. Where we lived had in the past been extensive strawberry growing fields that were transported up to London by train, in fact a local station was built for that purpose but again low priced imports and the supermarkets lack of support put all the growers out of business so there are many 4/5 acre and larger plots where they've lain derelict for the time since them all being built over now, not houses that the locals and their children can afford, oh no, but 4/5 bedroom executive houses for those who can afford them, usually as second homes or as perceived escape from the big city by people who then want to change how life is in south Hants because it's not the life they had in London. All the green space is disappearing at a great rate of knots. So short sighted!0

Them other folk can be a bit odd!
Apparently there may be another document from the yellowhammer stable called black swan - but that is by no means certain on the data currently publicly available.
Which thread was that DfV? There's the old Prepping thread here on Old Style but I couldn't see a new thread anywhere. Course, it may not be good for my blood pressure to read it but it has a horrid fascinationIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
All this talk of marzipan makes me want to jump up and check my epipens as i have an almond allery. Makes Christmas cake eating difficult and biscuits and mince pies etc.
When i was in the local chemist stocking up on shampoo shower gel and other bits they had reduced was told they are having problems getting paracetamols the ones that are oval shaped. Seems their suppliers are running short with people stockpiling. So who was it come on now own up!0 -
My MIL? I'm not sure why exactly, but they have a LOT of paracetamol and ibuprofen. I *think* it's a hangover from when FIL was having some quite severe back problems.February wins: Theatre tickets0

On the cheerful understanding that you have the sense to avert your gaze &/or take the meds as needed, it's here
We're mentioned but for some reason I didn't want to stick as much as a hair above the parapet...0 -
We've a couple of posters standing up for us so they'll know who they are and THANKS folks!
It really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of prepping for any reason at all. It used to be called running a pantry and was normal when people had to provide for themselves over the cold weather and hungry gap, every housewife in the land had her stores and home made preserves, everyone who had a patch of land grew fruit and veg and if it was big enough kept a pig and hens to provide eggs, the odd boiler chicken and bacon for the year and sometimes even a goat to give milk so all we're doing is continuing an ages old tradition. Let those who don't agree with us not do the same it's their choice and that hurts no one either. An adverse opinion changes nothing in my eyes and doesn't make the slightest difference to what I do and why I do it, I shall as always just quietly do my own thing and if the rest of the world doesn't like it, that's OK too!0 -

Regarding the rest of the post, I do agree with it too. I'm limited with various things however one being my erm 'age group' so knowledge of this was not really 'passed on' as such. I do remember (just about) we'd grow our own or most of our own potato's but that is as far as it went or more likely as far as I can remember, being only about 5 or 6 at that time.
Off topic sorry:Someone wish me luck! I've a part-time (has to be P.T I can't manage full at the moment anyway) job app to attempt to try next week at a wellknown(ish) bargain place the last one did not work out but I've got another one 'their rivals' now elsewhere to try, forms ready to hand in etc0 -

Damn...
Since being forced to sit around on my !!!! (bottom) for nearly six weeks now I'm trying to wean myself off the internet (along with the steroids but that's another story for another forum on another planet)
The paracetamol might have been me, although to be fair I have been building a reserve since last October when it became clear I was going to be needing the stuff regularly at the maximum dose (and I go for the round/bitter ones as it feels like I've 'earned' the pain relief). As for repeat prescriptions a GP from my surgery is coming to see me next week - since when did that happen ?! Nothing to do with Black Swan *** or Banana Clobber, more to do not having called me in for three years...
*** Famous pub/venue in Sheffield called The Black Swan (aka The Mucky Duck)
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -

Yup - apart from the reasons outlined in my previous post I pretty much stick to the gardening forum. I've been censured a couple of times for calling out trolls which frankly makes me weary of of the whole Martin Lewis thing sometimes - but again, one for another forum on another planet
Who here has read the Tokyo Disaster Manual..?
