  • Not always the cure for high blood pressure losing weight, I came down 20 odd kilos and am now within BMI for my height and still have to take my meds and will for the rest of my life, sad fact, nothing is going to change that.

I can attest that even with heart failure a person can lower their BP with exercise being the only variable that changed.

I'm on BP meds but my type aid in reversing remodelling of the heart i.e. they help, over years, to get an enlarged heart back to it's normal size. If I come off my BP meds I won't be stable and worsening heart failure will ensue again. But I agree, exercise and dietary control are really important.

In terms of prepping, having a stock of green tea could be beneficial in lowering both systolic and diastolic BPs by a couple of mmHg. I forget the study but Google will bring it up. Green Tea is thought to offer endothelial (a thin wall of cells in the inside the blood vessels) protection by helping the blood vessels relax, allowing blood to flow more freely, reducing the pressure within the walls. HTH :)
  • Well, that was a successful morning on the prepping front! :)

A pack of 9 loo rolls on a good offer, olives green & black also on offer (of which I bought several packs), 2 packs of speciality smoked salmon from the YS section (now residing in my freezer for Christmas).

All without any extra effort, just toddling round the supermarket with my little list. (I always have two lines on my list: “5 things for store” and “5 impulse buys”. From September to December I add “3 things for Christmas”.)

I’m starting to look forward to the British grown lettuces and tomatoes coming to the end of their season. In the winter I move on to chicory, apples and carrots in salads for a welcome change.

    Happy prepping, All!:)

Yes, it's hard when that happens. You must feel a little cheated that you did the right thing and it still didn,t work. Hopefully though your various organs will have benefitted from the weight loss in other ways and as we get older it,s certainly always helpful to have less weight bearing on our arthritis joints, especially things like knees!
  • It's just one of the factors to be taken into consideration as you age, I'll never be 21 again now matter how much I might want to but I am much fitter now and if I have to take medication to keep me healthy as part of that I'm grateful for the fact that it is there for me each month on the NHS and I don't have to pay for it. I've done my part as much as I'm able and the meds do the rest. I hope to live to a good age and stay healthy and active enough to enjoy life to the full.

I rarely use butter these days. Far too expensive (I prefer Kerrygold). For baking bread, cakes, anything that asks for butter, I use Clover. Always bought when it's 'on offer:rotfl:'.
Okay for spreading on bread/toast too. It freezes well so you can have a few spares.

You’re right, butter is getting ridiculous these days, minimum £2 a block around here...

Butter is one of those things you really really miss if you haven't got it though...

Regarding loo rolls, there is one 'cheap' brand that is usually £1 (its gone up now to about 1.10 I think) that are actually quite decent. The 'alt' cheapy brand is a bit dreadful I've found. Sometimes these pound shops have half decent ones in.

Similar for kitchen roll I've noticed, those £1 packs with four rolls in, that sounds good until you realise that either they are so thin they almost fade away :rotfl: or there's so little on each roll / you have to use more that you would of been probably better off with a regular one. There is again a different brand of £1 one that is decent but there's also at least 2 rubbishy one's , single £1 roll that is.

Butter, I usually get marg sorry! BM is not a bad place to look if one is local, if you're not too fussed about brand. I am unfortunately but I do get the cheapy one for £1 as its just like butter (but it is not that one)

I did try one of the famous butters about a year ago, it was the 'ships handbrake' brand ;) , but I thought it was a bit too salty. Might of been a one-off or just me.

Final word on butter/marg: Is it just me but I'm not keen on the ones that are just wrapped rather than in a plastic container ? Its not really an environmental issue as they are recyclable containers. :) , the famous brand butter came just 'wrapped' , to be fair its well wrapped but i prefer a container with it in, not having a suitable alternative. Perhaps it is just me. :o

I think you're just used to marg Andy. I grew up with wrapped butter and continue to find it ample as I age through the years. It's all just preference I guess. :)
