All those taking meds should be reassured. The Government has it all sorted.

Thank you. I'd be more reassured if the NHS hadn't Already run low on drip food for ICU & SCBU but that would be as our local production source (all one of it) had a contamination problem they still haven't fixed. (And almost dancing if I trusted the gubbyment but I'm a wicked old cynic.)

At least the Europe-made insulin will keep flowing!

And now apparently that £4 billion stockpiling figure could be wrong, although, while I agree it could be flawed, it could also be flawed the other way as by no means all preppers admit to it.

Indeed pretty much the first thing you're advised to do by websites is Not Mention nor advertise nor generally be regarded as a handy local warehouse. So, how much people have of what is possibly unquantifiable as some will say I have Z & mean my share of the total is my percentage, some will say Y meaning all I have for us lot & some will say Q as they're minded to stay off the radar.

I still think a new car is a questionable prep (although repairs on the JIT model are going to be wicked ticklish) & that a fraction of that in cereals & fruits & other canned & dry goods makes far more sense (to me).

  • IF we think there may be a shortage of fresh fruit if Brexit happens and tinned doesn't appeal or you haven't the room then I suggest finding some dried winter fruit salad, the mix of apple rings, pears, peaches, prunes and apricots that you soak overnight and it swells up to about 3 times it's dried size and then cook it on the hob in a saucepan. It's much less bulky to store in a sealed jar than tins or fresh and very tasty in fact doesn't really need sweetening and can be used as is with yoghurt, cream or custard or makes a lovely crumble with some cinnamon added and also makes a very nice pie or addition to an apple pie. It usually has a good use by date too. Useful stuff and still has the vitamins of fresh fruit without the waste as it doesn't go off.

It's a move in the right direction, however it does say:

The contract notice has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union and potential bidders have until 21 August to submit proposals. The successful provider(s) are expected to be announced in September.

So we have yet to learn who will be providing this service.

I find you need cane sugar ie Tate and Lyle rather than beet sugar such as Silver Spoon, to get marmalade to set. ( And beet sugar smells disgusting when you open the packet) But you shouldn't need special jam sugar, there should be enough pectin
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Maryb, I have not heard that about beet sugar, but I grew up in a market town just a few miles from a sugar beet processing factory, and the stench from there was enough to knock you bandy!
