This £20 is (or was rather! More down there *) for the month :). And re your second post, please don't take this as a good place to start your challenge. I have me and my daughter to feed however my kitchen cupboards and my freezer can hardly close and my food is spilling over into my work freezer

Edit: I forgot to mention, breakfast is porridge which is cheap, tasty and warming. I eat away from home 2 nights a week and usually I eat my lunch at work.

Thanks frayasmum.... I was a little confused as there seemed to such a jump in your signature totals... but it looks like you are mega prepared for your month ahead... Good Luck:D

    No problem :D

My first couple of challenge's were undertaken as part of a couple, and my last one was just me and the bubba and it's still me and the bubba... and a full freezer :)

Good Luck to all and thank you, nopot2pin :)

Don't know it its of any help to anyone, but I bought a 375gm packet of soy mince in my health food shop, think that I paid about €2.40 for it (£1.70ish). I have been putting about 50g in with 250g mince and nobody has noticed yet so am pleased with it. I would be quite happy to use this on its own for myself, but OH would be bound to suss it out so I now just hide it!

HTH someone to cut down a little

Count me in, this is my 3rd Grocery Challenge and I have been doing OK so far.

Had a set back last month when i was ill for over a week so money went on boxes of tissues (the balsam ones that dont rip the skin off your nose) and lots of cough and cold medicines and comfort food. I also couldn't be bothered to bake my biscuits and cakes so out came the shop bought biscuits.

Anyway I spend 86p over budget but I am going to be firing on all cylinders this month and have cut my budget to £280.

Now where did I put my mixing bowl & wooden spoon?

    Good luck everyone:T
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.

    Hi everyone

I'm in again this month. Will have to cut back a bit this month as had a stock up whilst MSE was offline. Got a bit carried away (well alright then, a lot!) and while it was all sensible stuff I will need to stick to basics for the rest of the month. So, erm, I'll make it ....... £150

  • Ooo.... just to say that I have been food budgeting for the past 2 weeks and was waiting for the November GC to come around so that I could join.

I've found that the best way to budget is take out ALL of the cash you can spend and budget with cold, hard cash in your sweaty little hand.

Doing it on card, IMHO, is much harder!

Count me in too - never really checked before so I shall start trying to settle for £100 at the most or £50 or less at the least (I live alone).

November spend so far - nowt (as fridge/freezer is stocked)
  • Looking forward to my November challenge. Last month I came in just under £19 over budget so I'm hoping to make it this month. Everyone in house breaks up for a weeks hols from work on Friday and we're going away Mon-Fri next week, so I'm not sure how that will effect the money. I've been buying in extra bits to take away and still menu planned but with a bit of flexibility.
DS1 has promised us a treat of takeaways as he's had a nice little nest egg arrive just in time.

Last months decision to menu plan on a monthly basis was a massive success and I'm going to follow that route in future. DH has also told me he is buying me a medium sized chest freezer as I have no real storage in my ffreezer, so I can't wait to really hit that batch cooking this month. :j

Well done to all those that made it last month; you are so encouraging to us wannabies. ;)

Aaargh. I gave myself a bigger budget of £80 this month (started 23rd Oct) as I've just moved into a new flat and now have a freezer to stock up and a bath to buy bath stuff for! But have somehow spent £60 already.. I say somehow, there was about £20 of toiletries and rather a lot of wine in there :o Should be only food to buy for the rest of the month but it's not going to be easy to stick to £20.. will have to see if I have any surveys etc to cash in for vouchers. Waah.
