    Hi elly2

I used to have exactly the same problem... i seemed to have almost a fear of not having enough in my cupboards to feed the whole street :p ... I have finally cracked it.... well got it under control ;)
we have been here 11 weeks now i think and when i checked the other day i have enough food to feed me n hubby for the next 6 weeks....may need a bit more milk and veg towards the end . Its all stuff i have made and frozen, so i sat down and have worked out 6 weeks of menus to use it up.... its now on the PC.. every night i look what i need to take out for the following day, and then when we have had it..i change it from red to black..and make note of any changes.... sounds a bit nerdy perhaps.. but it is really helping.... and now i don't have to think about it much at all -for the next 6 weeks.

A storecupboard challenge sound like a good idea to me...

November..........I'm going to go for £200, lots in the cupboards and the freezer is quite well stocked.
I really need to cut back this month as OH's new job means he has a weeks pay to last him to the end of November
All the bills, DD's etc come out of mine so this month I have to feed us as well which means not a lot left  and the car needs servicing and it's MOT.......good job I saved some up for it!

I'm going to do a big shop tomorrow and then hopefully just get veg, bread, milk etc as and when.

    Hiya

New to this thread, although I have been aware of it in the past. I am about to be booted off my favourite thread - pregnancy - as my little Sprog is due this month (Nov).

I am now officially on maternity pay (which is more generous for the first 3 months), but we have a massive credit card to sort out, and I want to stay home until Sept next year, which means about 6 weeks of no pay so I have already averaged my income out over the period and put away the extra we have this month, for use in the last month (if that makes sense).

It is DH, DS1 (8y), DS2 (6y) and me and of course the newborn, and I am going to budget £200 for the whole of the month of November, and this will include all food, cleaning materials, and disposable nappies, if I run out before my washables arrive, but I haven't really budgeted for anything for the baby.

My freezer is full to capacity, as I have been bulk cooking and freezing away, in case Sprog takes more time than I have. The cupboard is quite full too, and I also bought a slow cooker from Argos (6.5L capacity) and that is currently full of vegetable soup, which I have to blend and somehow fit into the freezer, oh and the fridge is quite full too, of milk and bread - but they don't last very long in our house.

Wish me luck, will update my sig soon.

    Hi

izoomzoom - congrats and good luck :D

Just to further clarify that I am not mad (well, nearly)... I have a huge chest freezer for me and DD (16months!), so I shall be working my way down through that, too.

  • My spening hit the roof last month and I actually just gave up. I had some spare cash so it was ok to do it but I could have used the money better elsewhere. This month I am going for £200 and I am determined to stick to it. I am just away to do a menu plan for the next week and get some baking done. I am furious at myself for slipping back into buying loads I dont need but I will get a grip of it this month. Good luck all xx

  • Hi guys!!

I'm joining in too! Yay! My first GC!!!

    Mine's to run from 1st - 30th November.

My budget is £100.00 for the month, including cleaning stuff, washing powder / conditioner & toiletries.
Oooo and I have no freezer so will that make it more tricky???

I think it’ll hit home how much I spend when I keep all of my receipts!
    Good luck everyone!!!

  • Had to go inot town to do bits and bobs, and parked in Tescos for a change. A bit further to walk but parking free as opposed to Morrisons! Saved £1.

Had a look in Tescos, dont normally shop there, and was really impressed with their offers. I bought a half price leg of lamb joint £3.49, half price turkey joint £1.94 and a tin of lentils reduced as they had a dent 25p!

I was really good and resisted buying luxuries even if they were reduced or things that even when reduced cost more than the value brands!
I got quite a buzz out of it! Eek!

Hope you are all doing well!
  • Hi everyone,

I'm in again for this month with a budget of £400.
I'm hoping to come in under this - partly because a brand new Asda store has just opened up within 15 minutes walk from my house! This will mean I shall leave the car at home, walk there and back and hopefully not get dragged into 'impulse purchases' because I physically won't be able to carry it all home. :)
Mortgage Free as of 03/07/2017
