Hiya all
My little girl arrived on Saturday night at 2250 hours, after confirmation that my labour had definitely started - whilst we were doing the Tesco shop :rotfl: .
Early evening, I still wasn't sure if I was having contractions or not, but being completely out of basics, I said to DH that we must go to Tesco's and try and do our shop (in accordance with my meal plan:D ), but if worst came to worst, we would just get bread and milk. Fortunately I was able to make it through and we got all that we wanted, barring the out of stocks.
Thank goodness, as it would have been rather embarressing not being able to offer the midwives a cuppa.
I have tallied up all our little shops (we go through so much bread and milk that we seem to need to go back every 2/3 days, and I buy 3/4 4pts at a time ????), and so far month-to-date, we have spent a massive £72.63 (and I thought we were doing really well). It does include 2 days worth of 'sandwiches' whilst out too  .
Don't know how we are going to fare for the rest of the month. I still have loads in the freezer, and really want to keep it there, because DH is still off work for another week, and I think I will need the freezer reserves for when I have to cope on my own again.0 -
Congratulations! A pink flavoured sweetie! :j :j :j Did you know it was going to be that colour so you were able to buy lots of lovely pink cutsie things, or woz it the loveliest of s'prises?
Whichever, I'm glad to see you got the shopping finished first :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -

Congratulations Izoomzoom. Enjoy your new arrival.
Not too bad a week for me. I have spent £51.38 in total, just over the £50 I drew out for groceries (we also include household stuff, and other bits and pieces).
Must get round to doing my meal plan tomorrow - I also think it's the single most important thing, closely followed by using mostly cash, dayto day, which I also do now. (Apart from the monthly T online shop).
I have been stocking up the freezer with meals and bits to make it easier over the coming months, as I will be working more, and with Christmas looming I need some evenings free for Christmas food projects like mince pies etc. Only trouble is, there won't be any room in the freezer!
Good luck to everyone for the coming week.

izoomzoom - A BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU.....
I'm glad i'm not the only one who can't seem to get to grips with this challenge, when I read thru this thread I sometimes get really annoyed with myself. How on earth some people manage to feed a family on so little I have no idea
I would love to get my spend down to £50.00 a week (or less if poss) It would mean being able to put some cash away for a holiday next year.
Oh well I will keep trying:rolleyes:

Hi Redmel. I know what you mean, I have spent nearly half my budget already and the month isn't half over yet! I think it's a matter of persevering and stuff. I mean, when I buy wash powder for example I buy a really big box for about £5+ and it last me well over a month. I don't buy coffee every month or cleaning materials and if you buy these kind of things when they're on bogof-twice the value. (err...I think!! lol)
I've started making meals go further by adding extra cheap veg etc. and I've started buying veg when it's reduced, so when I get it home I can blanche it and freeze it. The other day I bought 4 packs of 4 large baking potatoes-only 25p a pack and they are fine, (I did not freeze the potatoes, just the other veg I bought!! lol). I only used three towards evening meal tonight and fed 4.
When I start to think it's an uphill climb I come on here and get re-motivated.
Stick with it we're all pulling together on this and rooting for each other!!!
Hope this helps.GE 36 *MFD may 2043

Hello everyone, would it be possible for lil me to join this challenge???
I know we are well into the month already but ive just seperated from my husband and moved into a new house with my 2 sons, and i really need to keep a track of my shopping and try and stick to a £30 a week budget (also got 3 cats
)
I know I can do it but think if i get inspiration from you all, which i have been doing secretly for ages  I may as well own up and if you'll have me I can update daily just to keep myself in check!!
Ok Im ready to do my weekly shop tomorrow, so will start from then, Ive stocked up on cat litter that was mispriced in somerfields  and cheekily bought 3 bags of Bob Martin cat litter at £1.09 each that should have been £4.29 so wont have to buy that for a while.Thats the cats sorted apart from the foodnow it's just my 2 strapping lads  i need to feed!
Havent got anything else much in, just a few basic bits, so just need to work out a meal planner and go for that and stick to it tomorrow.0 -

Good luck with the challenge!! keep us posted.GE 36 *MFD may 2043
