Hi y'all. I've managed to get back again :j. Gone well over budget as DS3 has been away in the US for the last 6 weeks. Now you may think that a silly comment, but as we had a load of stuff that he likes, I had to buy a load of stuff that my DW & I like, because DS3 doesn't like much of what we do. Also as he eats late at night, so anything that I cook for him precludes many of the dishes that he likes, such as pasta and rice etc. Kids eh! Who'd 'ave 'em.
Welcome all the Newbies and good luck to all and sundry!!!!!!!0 -

I could spend a fortune, as the variety of stuff here is amazing but i have finally realised "what is the point?"....
cleaning stuff in particular amazes me.. i can get a 10kilo box of wash powder for roughly £7.50 and it lasts for ages
A lot of other food is cheaper here (apart from those few things i mentioned - which i will be bringing back from the UK)
I also cook everything from scratch, and have a hubby who isn't a fuss pot -which is a god send :rotfl:
Now it is cold and hubby works outside, he takes HM bread and soup most days.... they are soooo cheap its silly - but hubby loves them...
Im in the process of losing weight  .... so i have finally got our portion sizes down.... so every time i do a recipe for 4 i now freeze 2 portions-before we would have eaten it... I have lost 2st 4.5lb in the last 12 weeks eating:-
corned beef hash
cheese, potato n onion flans
liver casserole
savoury meat pie
HM sausages, casseroled or toad in the hole
roast chicken dinners
potatoes n onions done in the oven - just had that and its delicious
pasties
steak n mushroom pie
I don't have exact measurements as im a "make it up as i go along" kinda cook :rotfl: .. but if you want any of the recipes i can give you the basic idea... and if you are looking for any recipe ideas..let me know what sort of stuff you are looking for and i will see what recipes i can unearth.... i have shed loads
I posted my bread recipe on a thread earlier..it is stunning (well we think so) and as i don't use fat or milk in it... it works out about 50p a loaf - and you can get fresh yeast free and cheaper flour in the uk - so you could make it even cheaper :T a couple of good slices and a flask of soup keeps hubby going all day..
Hope that helps...if i can help with anything just let me know
Thank you , I think my las message and your current message I am replying to must have crossed on the way!! lol
Well done with your weight loss-that's fantastic!!! I have to admit my portion control is out of control at the moment and I'm trying to reduce the portion sizes. I cooked some rice last night and it didn't look like much when it was raw but once it was cooked there was loads (I froze what we didn't eat, hoping it will still be fit to eat when I defrost it!!!
I have a bread maker somewehere!!! I moved in with my partner last year but I have stuff stored with family and friends and it's a long job trying to re-group everything!
At the moment I am wondering whether I should purchase a food processor of some kind, and if so which one (apart from cheap!!) I have a smoothie maker and I have a george foreman grill and a slow cooker, as well as the aformentioned bread maker and an electric whisk, however, I would appreciate any advice please??
Before I moved I had 47 cook books... somewhere, can only find about 10 now!!! I ended up with so many books because a couple of years ago I went to an auction and saw a book I fancied, but it was in a box ful of cookery books so I had to buy the whole box-however, on the plus side it only cost me £2.00 for the whole lot!!!!!:D
I saw an earlier thread with potatoes and onions, and cauliflower cheese with jackets and they sound great so I have copied and pasted it onto a word document for future reference.
Thank you for sharing your words of wisdom with me yet again!!! lolGE 36 *MFD may 2043

Well, on Friday I bought 4 pints of whole organic milk - that risked me £1.58
and some grapes for the little one, which came to 99p
So a total so far of £6.09... let's just hope I can keep this up

Hi freyasmum.
Good luck with your grocery challenge. I saw your signature and was baffled as to what a terramundi is??? Then I googled it and discovered that it's a kind of money box??? (hope i'm right now or i'm gonna look a proper prat!!! lol )GE 36 *MFD may 2043

Hiya,
Yep, my terramundi is a clay pot with only one way to get the money in, and most importantly... only one way to get the money out - and that is to break it, so it means that I can put any 'extra' or pin money in and I can't touch it, once it's in, it's inWell, until I break it, that is
I must have about a couple of hundred in there, but the reason I have said £25 + ?? is because I haven't been counting it as I put it in... I'll wait for the surprise when I open it. When I bought it, the lady said that her friend had saved over £2000 for a once in a lifetime trip to Australia (but that was in £20 notes only ) so who knows how much i'll have...
Anyway, thank you and good luck with your challenge, too.

Spent £14.74 on Friday on treats for Lunch yesterday when we were out all day. I know that's quite alot of our budget but we were out from 7am till 12pm and it saved us quite a bit of money

I know MrsMcawber, I feel the same... I've grown rather attatched to mine now... she sit's on my livingroom windowsill (well, between my living room and kitchen I have a window (it's weird... I think it's a seventies thing
). If it wasn't for all my money inside, she could live with me forever... we could be so happy together. It's cream and pink with silver swirls... girly and pretty.
Mwahaha, I'm a nutter... and I haven't even been drinking... promise!

That reminds me of yesterday when I was pooped after spending all day at Santa Pod at the Thunder and Flame car show. We're in my OH's car (bearing in mind it's a sporty car and he's talking to the owner of a modified cars forum, that we went with..) and I put the car radio stereo on loudly in the carpark with 'Tragedy' by Steps on, and sat there cackling away thinking it was the funniest thing ever. Heee heee
Clearly tiredness does weird things to me :rotfl:April 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500
