Relocating a boiler

Hello

I have read online that its possible but just wanted some further info and an indication on cost?

Its for a house we are buying where the current boiler (a 7 year old combi) is in the bathroom and we want to move it to the kitchen which is directly below.

We want to move it as the bathroom has no bath and moving the boiler would enable us to put one in.

How complex a job is this?
Are we better to wait until we need a new boiler?

Depends on where you are based and how much extra legwork is needed can be at least £300

I imagine it would involve ripping up floorboards in the bathroom? We don't mind as we'd be putting a new bathroom in anyway.

I should have said that in the kitchen it would still be on an outside wall.

costs vary, there will be a lot of if's and maybe's.

if the existing flue can safely be reused and not in a major city, say around £500 plus vat.that will include the necessary safety certificate and appliance recommissioned to the system.

If a new flue or plume kit is required cost will increase, also consider your 7 year old boiler could be a condensing boiler and a suitable drain needs to be sought.sorry its not cheap due to current legislation.
consider if your 7 year old boiler has an extended warranty, this will expire if the appliance is relocated. Its your choice.Same with any service contract.
A 7 year combination condensing boiler will be in its latter days of reliability and life span although that depends on the manufacture and correct servicing.

Have you got a gas safe registered operative,if not visit gas safe and there is a local operative search facility.

    good luck.

Mine is a 2 yr old combi WB Greenstar i, not sure why the warrenty would be void.
Mine is located outside the bathroom, with the vent going upwards and out of the roof; I want it in the loft to give me more space for stair into the loft.

We had this done, it was moved from one side of the house to the opposite side of the house down in the garage. We needed a complete new flue and a fair bit of new pipework. Cost was £1200

It would cost around £600 including VAT to move. Maybe it's a good time to consider an upgrade?

It's fine to move a boiler.

If you get authorisation from the boiler manufacturer then that is all you require. It doesn't void your warranty.

the warranty will expire if the boiler is relocated, its a condition of the extended warranty provider.

To keep the warranty active, tell the warranty provider before moving it they will reply in writing.
Any installer will know the procedure and its well worth keeping the warranty active.

Maybe a moot point but can you rearrange which end your bath taps would be at so that you can keep the boiler where it is and not hit your head on it when you get out the bath?

We had a very similar thing done, moved our boiler from bedroom upstairs to kitchen downstairs. It was directly below the old position and on an outside wall and the plumbers had no problem relocating it. We had other work done at the same time (first fix plumbing for a toilet/basin, replacing a cast iron down pipe for plastic, relocating an outside tap) and the total cost was about £1200 for all of it. South east prices.

I had my boiler serviced today, £50, not sure if it needed a service as its only 2 years old.
He said it would cost £450 to move the boiler into the loft, that is where the flue goes, so straight forward - he said.
