When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :money:

    Hi June-Penny-Jugglers

    It's my weekend it's going to be a nice day at Dowd-Towers-By-The-Sea. I've woken too early so I'm off to climb a local hill before breakfast. :D It's a 10min drive to the foot of it.

    Debt-Free-Nillionaire Continuity Plan Year Four:

    * Checked online banking.

    * Breakfast is leftovers.

    * Enjoy a CD I already own.

    * Turned off alarm clock until tonight, it resets itself automatically.

    * Checked DW's online banking.

    * Use Ordnance Survey maps free from a code a kind friend gave to me.

    More later...

    To live without risk is to risk not living.

    Hi

    I've not posted on this thread before but would like to join in and focus on the small pleasures life has to offer.(and the free ones!)

    Today I will be

    Doing yoga in the sitting room instead of in a class

    Making two birthday cards

    Making myself a sealed piggy bank to save £2 coins

    Relieving the driveway of it's weeds

    Using up leftovers for lunch

    Scouring the freezer for supper items rather than going shopping

    Have fun on a DFW day everyone.

    :)

    Morning all :)

    Thanks for starting us off Ally, and hello to Slowdown :wave:

    It is a lovely morning here, though no hills to climb :)
    Just had HG strawberries for breakfast again - it is amazing how many you get from a few hanging baskets :)

    Today's plans:
    Some tidying /rearranging / putting away in house and garden
    Some cleaning too, I guess :o
    Change dining room curtains - no spend involved, as I have a lovely summery looking pair in one of the trunks, made for me by a friend about 30 years ago :rotfl:

    Pick more strawberries and mangetout :)

    Check banks and update spreadsheets
    Sainsburys for the couple of items I couldn't get in lidls yesterday
    Also donate to their food bank collection trolley
    Go along to my sales unit, tidy up and add a few things to make it look fresh
    All food from home - mushroom omelettes for dinner tonight :)

    Will be back later to add on other things (hopefully), but more coffee needed first!
  • Morning :) day 3 of 6 off :D I have something I need to do this afternoon so really only have morning & evening that are my own....

    * plant seeds & pot on toms & cucumbers
    * go through finances & pay off some personal spends from cc
    * remind oh he owes me money & pay him for groceries he bought last week
    * cut out pattern & fabric for skirt (didn't do this yesterday)
    * call in at lidl and get a couple of bits. I'm trying to run down stores
    * continue reading library book
    * depending on time I might pop to the allotment to pick strawberries after my appt
    * list a few things on fleabay

    Ok that's all

    I've got about 50 plants at the allotment (do you remember last year my dd's friend gave me over a 100 plants and I couldn't bear to throw any away?! :rotfl:) about 30 are ever bearing. If last year is anything to go by June will have the biggest burst. Yesterday I picked 2 punnets. Then they'll slow down for about a month then after that a punnet every couple of days for the rest of the period. Although as it's the 2nd year there'll be more than last year

    Morning everyone

    Thanks for starting us off Ally

    Welcome slowdown it's a great thread that helps keep me on the straight and narrow

    Going to send the email in a minute that I have been dodging, don't know why it's a simple email.
    Need to go out this morning to get some banking done
    Def having a NSD as we have lots of bits to use up that DD has been impressively doing well with. I'm shocked and surprised, it's amazing what a year at uni can do for you. DD has always been a money saver she just couldn't cook!!!!
    When I went for cat litter yesterday I picked up cheap sandwiches, plain ham and chicken ones for 8p with the aim of using some of the meat to help the cat with its meds, didn't get chance, bec we had had a big lunch, DD had the sandwiches for supper sharing with her cat. I managed to snaffle one before that was eaten

    Sold an electronic item for DD on eb@y only to get fraud messages from eb@y sent and the listing blocked, not about me but about the winning bidder. They were very impressive on how fast they acted and provided information on different potential scenarios that could crop up. Bec they had acted so fast none really affect me it just means that I've had to relist the item again. Wasn't even allowed to do a second chance listing due to them completely blocking the original listing. Hopefully this one will run smoothly.
    Must clean bathroom today-i will do it
    Accepted another RM survey-going to try and save the extra vouchers for Christmas for food now

    Have a great day everyone x

    Morning all, & welcome to Slowdown - we love new people on here!
    Am envious of all this talk of strawberries. It just shows what a difference it makes living in the south. Despite me not really technically being in the north, it's far enough to make a difference. Our plants are covered in fruits, but all small & green at the moment. They'll be nice when they ripen though.

    Today's list is going well....am cracking through it:
    *Rubber ham hock - it did a meal yesterday & I have divvied it up for another 2 meals plus a sandwich.
    *The stock from cooking it will be frozen for when I next make lentil soup.
    *Waterered veggies.
    *3 laundry loads pegged out for free drying. One was a cheap overnight load.
    *Did a few surveys.
    *Entered 3 prize draws.
    *Updated grocery budget.Wasn't looking forward to this, as thought we had overspent by a fair amount last week, but when I applied myself to the maths, I found that the overspend was only around £4.50, so could have been a lot worse, & this was mostly because we bought a bigger bag of cat biscuits than usual as we saw a decent brand on offer.
    *Tweaked a few 'pots' of money, just for accuracy.
    *Not an NSD, as popped out for stamps, tomato feed (I was convinced we had some, but didn't find any while blitzing the shed yesterday) & bird peanuts, as it's kicking off here with sparrows getting really aggressive over who is going to get the last 6 left in the feeder.....answer atm = NO-ONE, as there's no eating going on, just fighting!
    *Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
    *Sort out fridge. Work out how many peppers I need to make this week's meals, then prep & freeze the rest.
    *Stitch more of the birthday gift I'm working on.
    *Feed sourdough jar ready for baking a loaf tomorrow or Wednesday.
    *Today's free fitness will mostly be sorting out the pond, which needs another session of bending & stretching to reduce the duckweed again. Tedious task, but the frogs will love me for it & it's bound to add some good nutrients to the compost bins.
    And that will be pretty much my day. We both overdid it in the garden yesterday. I planted out our sweetcorn, sowed rocket & a few other jobs, then decided to blitz my half of the shed. I was ruthless & turned out 4 sacks of clutter. I worked at a steady pace, but all the bending, twisting & reaching has set off that naughty little group of muscles in my back again, so I must be careful today.
    OK, off into the sunshine.......& will also check that Cat hasn't made his way round to the front of the house as the aggressive thug cat which attacks anything with whiskers has been spraying & posturing like mad around our end of the street & our cat was hurt in the last run-in. Unfortunately, he stays & fights instead of running for cover.

    2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
    Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

    Sixth Anniversary
    Afternoon everyone! I finished work earlier than anticipated so I have used the time to updated my YNAB....and am pleased that we are sticking well within our budgets this month, in fact we are a little ahead, so I am feeling rather pleased with myself! Popped into town with LO earlier and had an ice-cream, plus found Grazia magazine reduced down to 50p from 2.50 - newsagents were running a promotion, so that was a bargain and I will read it in the sun later today :) Also popped to the bank, and banked two cheques.

    Sticking to meal plan today....also going through my ebay items and relist anything I think we will manage to sell still.

    Have a great day everyone, its really hot and sunny here, so very pleased to have an afternoon off in the garden!
