I thought that Stalis runs into Malia which is the party capital of the island, the poster said they did not want to be in " party central":rotfl:
Well yes, I guess Malia is the party capital of Crete... but there is an old village with restaurants that you wouldn't believe you were in the 'party capital' of Crete.
We had a very pleasant 2 week holiday in Malia in September and you would not have known you were in the 'party capital' of Crete.
Sometimes you have to look past the blurb.
Maybe look at Skiathos or Parga.
Or Thassos or Stoupa.
Or Tingaki on Kos.
No idea which TOs or airlines fly to these resorts from Edinburgh or Glasgow.0 -
From Glasgow you can do any of the 5 big Greek islands so my suggestions would be;
Corfu - sidari is the Islands 2nd busiest resort and has numerous bars and restaurants and lots of evening entertainment, wont be party central but will have enough to keep you just although it is quite British so depends what you fancy. Other resorts in corfu included Agios Georgios South, Agios giordios, roda or kassiopi all of which would fit the bill.
Kos - take a look at Tingaki which has a good few restaurants and bars and a great beach or kefalos which is close to kardamena for a livelier night out if you want it too. Lambi is also good as it's close to Kos Town.
Crete - others have mentioned stalis and this would be a good shout in Sept. Lots of bars and restaurants and again livelier Malia round the corner which does die down a lot come mid Sept anyway when all the students are back. Also look at Agios Nikolaos, Gouves or Elounda if you fancy something a bit nicer.
Zante - Tsilivi, argassi or even laganas at that time of year would be good.
Rhodes - Pefkos or lindos would be good options with several livelier bars but some lovely beaches and quieter spots too. Or Ixia, or even faliraki as that has moved away from the 18-30 market in recent years.
Hope that helps!Lea0 -

Thank you....lots to look at. I would love to stay away from anything with a “British” feel0 -

I Want to fly from Glasgow/Edinburgh, nice resort, a few bars and restaurants....but not party central
Any suggestions?
Thanks for help
We toured the Peloponnese earlier this year. I would heartily recommend it. A lovely more Greek experience than the more touristy islands which means prices tend to be more greek orientated. You could combine with a trip to Athens or fly direct to Kalamata.
Nafplio is a nice spot but there are some many others and so many amazing things to see.
Monemvasia is one if the most stunning places we've seen in Europe.0 -

Look at Parga on the Greek mainland, opposite Corfu and within a day trip to Albania.
Lots of Italians come down on the ferry from Brindisi, lots of Eastern Europeans - we met some lovely people from Macedonia.
A resort for Greek people too.
No places doing Sunday lunches, bangers & mash, fish, chips & mushy peas.
Very busy but in a nice way.
Check out TripAdvisor for more information on the resorts mentioned.0 -

Unless you are talking early September I'd avoid the Ionian Islands (nice as they are) as the weather can be changeable. Rhodes/Cyprus/Crete are all good however.
'British type' resorts are certainly not my choice as they tend to be Brits abroad with all the poor connotations of the same (English spoken exclusively, little local/country feel and the worst of fast food), they are however a fair bit cheaper since that's where you'll end up of you book a package deal and don't express a preference.0 -
We have just come back from Corfu. The place we go to is just outside Acharavi. We went 5 star and couldnt fault it. There is accomodation to suit every budget. The locals are such nice people and we have eaten some beautiful food at the many tavernas.
Dont go to Sidari!! We honeymooned there in 1990 and it suited us as 24 year olds but now we are over 50 it is my idea of hell!! lol
Funny how your priorities change as you get older.:DMake £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £600 -

We did exactly the same.
Ironically we stayed in Sidari and the area a few times some 20 years ago - toured the whole island and laughed at the godawful state of Kavos (lovely beach but wall to wall bars, tattoo parlours & kebab shops -nothing written in Greek and dead as a dodo until evening when it turns into anyone over 20's worst nightmare of binge drinking).
After going back several years ago Sidari has turned iinto a bigger version frankly.
Watch out for brochures/holiday companies calling it the 'canal d'amour' area etc -check on the map if it's within a couple of miles of Sidari it'll be the same, the holiday companies know the name is a bit toxic so will try to 'roll it in glitter'.
We're going back to Corfu this year but late August and Paleokatritsa -possibly the nicest resort and many miles from Sidari!
My favourite Ionian Island is Kefalonia -absolutely gorgeous and steeped in history (despite the 1953 earthquake).0 -
