Extortionate DRP demand £8083.74!

Help please. I’ve had a DRP letter - I know the usual advice is to totally ignore, but this is different to the ones I usually receive and ignore.

I suddenly this year started receiving repeat ‘fines’ for parking in Sainsbury’s and going over the time. These ‘fines’ were from 2013/2014. I ignored them at the time and never heard from DRP till this year. In January they started sending multiple fine demands on a daily basis - upto 18 in a day (all for the same dates) and one day 24 demands (harassment ++), to the point I dreaded the post man coming. I ignored them. I’ve just arrived home to a signed for letter. My son signed for it.

I opened it up and it is DRP again saying it’s notice of intended court proceedings, quoting a Supreme Court Scotland decision about parking charges (I live in England) for unpaid parking charges to the amount of £8083.74!

What do I do? I certainly haven’t ‘accrued’ a ‘debt’ to that amount. The demand ends saying they’ll put my case on hold till 5th July pending my proposal for repayment.

Do I continue ignoring it and wait for court papers and then - well i don’t know. I’ve never heard of a demand for so much money before and can’t imagine they’ll drop it if they think there is any possibility of being awarded that much in court. Any help is most appreciated.

DRP are fully covered by post four of the Newbies Sticky - please read it.

Is this related to your thread from January? If so, you need to get this merged as multiple threads on the same tickets can get confusing and not get you best help.

This is an entirely unregulated industry which is scamming the public with inflated claims for minor breaches of contracts for alleged parking offences, aided and abetted by a handful of low-rent solicitors.

Parking Eye, CPM, Smart, and another company have already been named and shamed, as has Gladstones Solicitors, and BW Legal, (these two law firms take hundreds of these cases to court each year). They lose most of them, and have been reported to the regulatory authority by an M.P. for unprofessional conduct

Hospital car parks and residential complex tickets have been especially mentioned.

The problem has become so rampant that MPs have agreed to enact a Bill to regulate these scammers. Watch the video of the Second Reading in the HofC recently.

and complain in the most robust terms to your MP. With a fair wind they will be out of business by Christmas.

Oh dear, the Timewasting DRP living in cloud nine again

Nothing they can do, in America, these wild nutters
are classed as grifters ... trying to scam you out of money

Who is the parking company ?

How many tickets did you get and which supermarket ??

Were the tickets issued in scotland as they quote ...
"Supreme Court Scotland decision" ... wonder what
    they are talking about ???

The more you can tell us, the better the help on here

In the meantime forget about the dream world DRP live
in as they are 100% useless and 100% powerless

PS: The extras DRP add on are £60 per ticket for their
delightful services but .... as DRP offer the PPC's a
no win no fee deal, take DRP out of the picture and
    you save £60 a ticket

All DRP can do is pass it back to the PPC saying they failed.
No charge for the PPC which means no extras for you
  • VCS v Mackie. Would be the obvious "we can pursue big damages" case, but it obviously is Scots (of limited assistance) and is not supreme court.

Start by looking at all the tickets individually. Some of these are rapidly approaching limitation and the limitation defence will relate to each in isolation.

You should get a solicitor letter of claim in due course. That is the usual start of the litigation process....

The previous one post thread was for a PCN at a hospital last year. No follow up from the poster so we have no idea what happened there.

This thread is about alleged parking in a Sainsbugs many years ago, so appears to be a separate problem.

No completely different - supposedly relating to 2013/2014

I’m not sure how many tickets as it relates to 2013/2014. It was from Sainsbury’s car park (I would have been shopping in store hence parking there) and it’s in England not Scotland.

This goes back to 2013/2014 so I can’t even remember what the circumstances were other than I would have been shopping in the local Sainsbury’s. I’ve no idea why they’ve just suddenly decided to pursue me for this now.
