Openreach can be a bit unhappy if you don't use a proper 'Linebox' NTE with the removable front, as this disconnects all your extension wiring and enables you and them to test the line properly in the event of a fault. They will not accept master sockets from electrical ranges as the Network Terminating Point.

They don't have the time to care whether it's got a little BT logo on it or not -- and you can get logo'd ones on Ebay very easily.

Thanks all I've got one with the removable front. And a punch down tool.

So this weekend I'm going to get the disgusting current one replaced

Do have a read of the excellent advice from this web site.

Although the task might be quite simple there can be costly downsides!! Take note!

The master socket with the removable front the 2 main wires are a screw connections A & B so do need for the push down tool but if you have extensions coming of it you may need the tool for that.

The very latest ones don't use a punch down tool for the extension wiring; they have little flip lids that punch down the wire built in.

Moved mine all over the house during 3 years of renovations. The wall where it was doesn't exist now and it's ended up where I suspect it started 20 years ago, before the previous chap messed with it.

If Openreach ask anything I will just say "Que?" That's at least one sylable more than they gave me when I asked them about something much more important.

Just make sure you don't post what you're about to do on the internet, because that would prove intent.

If they can be bothered to trace 'illegal' replacement of their sockets. I suspect they have better things to do, don't you?

    Honestly lol.
