Family of Five Package Holiday
Hellywell
Hello everyone
I'm new to the forum and would like some advice please.
I'm looking to find a family package holiday for a family of 5 in the summer holidays this year and I have a budget of around £2000. I wanted to know if this is unrealistic?
I've not been abroad for 13 years since I've had children and am a little out of practice on the costs etc. involved.
I've read the article on Summer holidays, which sites to search etc. and have followed this but the prices seem a little bit too high yet for me. I've waited until about 8 weeks before departure in the hopes that I can find a deal. Does anyone know from experience if the prices may still drop further? Our departure date is the 4/5th August and I'm looking for a 10 night stay.
Any advice will be gratefully received

Schools holidays time so it's high season, as reflected in prices.
No way of getting around that.
Friends have been to Eurocamp and said it's great for kids - they have sites near beaches - worth a look on their website to see if any good deals.0 -

Yes we have done Eurocamp type holidays last couple of years and they were great.
We didnt go with Eurocamp but with Selectcamp 1st year then direct with the campsite 2nd year.
Look at Canvas, Vacance Soleil and Roan too0 -
As others point out, you'll struggle on the budget.
Maybe look at cheaper European destinations such as Montenegro?0 -
Thanks for the advice
We are campers so that could be an option. Will take a look at Montenegro too.
Thanks again all

Loads of ways of getting around that, as we discuss regular as clockwork here.NoodleDoodleMan wrote: »Schools holidays time so it's high season, as reflected in prices.

We had a caravan in France a couple of years ago, we found the site through Eurocamp but then found that the site had also its own vans which were quite a bit cheaper than the Eurocamp ones, so worth checking that too0 -
Yes tend to get cheaper accomodation booking direct with the campsite - however Eurocamp etc can get you cheaper crossings especially if you take a longer channel crossing eg to Normandy/Brittany, so weigh up total cost. If you go Dover/Calais it'll almost certainly be cheaper to book direct.Hopeless_Case wrote: »We had a caravan in France a couple of years ago, we found the site through Eurocamp but then found that the site had also its own vans which were quite a bit cheaper than the Eurocamp ones, so worth checking that too0 -

That's interesting! We did the tunnel using Clubcard vouchers, but it's worth seeing if a package is cheaper if we do it again, as it was a very long way and quite exhausting0 -
Going by the nature of the OPs enquiry, and the specific dates given, I read it as about package holiday deals in schools holidays, and was there any advantage in delaying bookings until nearer the departure dates.Loads of ways of getting around that, as we discuss regular as clockwork here.
As I said, prices rise significantly during that period for such and there is no way around that AFAIK if you want that type of deal.0 -
Prices do sometimes drop nearer the date in the school hols. I've noticed it a few times. Slightly different, but looking at a cruise in the school hols and its price keeps dropping, with 6 weeks to go. Depends how sales are going etc. Of course you risk less choice by delaying.NoodleDoodleMan wrote: »Going by the nature of the OPs enquiry, and the specific dates given, I read it as about package holiday deals in schools holidays, and was there any advantage in delaying bookings until nearer the departure dates.
