Any ideas for a book fan's hamper??

Hello everyone,

My friend is an avid book reader. I would like to do a hamper for her for Christmas.

Problem is she just buys a book whenever she wants one so my idea of lots of books has gone as I don't know what she has

Any suggestions would be great,

Thank you:D

  • You could make a hamper around what she likes, either:
non alcoholic- mug, coffee sachet, hot chocolate, packet of biscuits or chocs
alcoholic - glass, bottle of wine, chocs
bathing - so she can read in the bath - bubble bath, candle, nice soap, flannel
with the above put a book token in them so that she can choose her own book, or buy her a book get a gift voucher with it which mean that if she has already got the book she can exchange it.
Hope that helps, i love reading and would love it if someone thought to make me one. I would need a comfy pillow and fleece throw in mine though because i could read all day. :rotfl: and maybe a hunky chef to cook my dinner.

Oh and don't forget a bookmark!! Waterstones do some nice chrome ones in the shape of initials which clip over the page so don't fall out! Quite cheap too can't remember how much but a couple of pounds tops!

Mmmmmm as a book worm myself I'd say maybe one of those lights you can clip to your book as you read? Definitely a bookmark, book vouchers, something to nibble when you're reading (if she's not a choccy person then how about a fruit selection? I love eating satsumas as I sit and read!), home made cookies to munch, a nice blanket to snuggle under, hot chocolate set with mug and some selection sachets, small bottles of wine (Asda do that thing where if you buy small bottles and like them you can then take your receipt back and get the cost of the litle bottle of a big bottle - you could buy a couple and then go back and buy the big bottles for yourself ;) )

How about maybe a book review magazine - I'm sure places like Borders which have a wider range of magazines must sell things like The Bookseller.

That programme "The Book Quiz" hosted by David Baddiel which was on BBC4 was really good - maybe that's out on DVD now? Or, if you ask around enough, you might be lucky to find someone who had recorded some of the episodes!
  • I have made a book gift set for my Mum for xmas, In hers i have put the following

    Fleece Blanket - QDs
    Fleece Slippers - Poundland
    Mug - Poundland
4 hot chocolate packets - Whitards (multi pack spilt between 4 baskets)
    Mini bag of marshmellows
    Book Light - hawkins bazzar
A thumber - hawkins Bazzar (to put on your thumb to hold pages open)
2 X Bookmarks Local Libary (she often has 2 books on the go at once)
    £10 Book voucher
And an eye mask (wilkensons) and so eye tea bags (whitards) to rest her eyes after all the reading.

I have used the blanket to make a base to arrange all the gifts on and will wrap in cellophane and tie on a bow,
    Hope that helps
  • I'm doing a book hamper for my step father. I have managed to get a couple of nice hardback books out of poundland. A coffee mug, sachets of hot chocolate out of Home Bargains and I will add other bits to it too, like choclates and maybe a couple of car/carvan magazines. You can get book lights out of poundland too.
I also remember the words of my friends, but I would rather have enemies than friends like you :p

:p would like to make it known that ZubeZubes avvy is a DHN, she's not dancing :o

If she likes cats - she can get a free calendar here (worth £4.99):

    www.petpoetsclub.com/shop/freecatcalendar

All you need to pay is £2.49 postage (open to UK residents only)

Boomshanka you have a total of ten posts, six of which are advertising this 'free' calendar ... are you by any chance affiliated with petpoetsclub.com?

I'm really sorry I can't remember where I saw it but you can buy a book journal to write down the name of each book you read with a comment about it, you might even be able to make one of these yourself!

Sounds like a great idea a book hamper might use that for my mum!

Lakeland sell a lovely book journal - at 8.99 it's not cheap but a great alternative to buying books.
