I love these. I have a furry blood cell and a furry trypanosome (critter that causes sleeping sickness) on my desk at work.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -

Last Christmas one of my best pressies was a book called '1001 books you must read before you die'. It's published by Quintet and it's massive but I'm sure anyone who loves reading would appreciate it as I do. HTHNothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task. For reading in the bath Primark have bath pillows for only £3.00. As an avid reader myself I must have about a dozen bookmarks but I always end up using a train or theatre ticket!:hello: N:hello:A :hello:N :hello:A :hello:M :hello:A :hello:G :hello:S :hello:0

Hiya,
I was flicking through my magazines after reading this thread with interest and found the following items I thought might be good for your hamper:
Another book journal which is a bit cheaper than Lakelands (I LOVE Lakeland but you do pay through the nose...). It's £5.99 at www.readingnotes.co.uk.
The 'Thumb Thing' which you put onto your thumb and place it into the spine of a book. The two wings hold the pages open making reading much more comfortable. Apparently! I haven't tried it but i read in bed and I would love one myself so may be worth a look. Available at www.thisbeautifulhome.com for £2.50.
I found both of these in EasyLiving magazine.
HTH

I've always fancied one of those across-the-bath attachments where you can put your soap, glass of wine, candle & prop open a book on a stand, only trouble is the only one's I've ever seen are about £40....they must be available cheaper than that somewhere
Maybe this would be good if you could find one for a reasonable price, you could fill it with a book/magazine, candle, small bottle of wine & glass, soap, choccies, bubble bath etc. Then the book isn't the total focus point & it wouldn't matter quite so much if she had to exchange it if she already had it.
HTH;)

Several bookmarks in different styles (I always have half a dozen books on the go at once, so one bookmark isn't enough)
Clip-on reading light (for reading in bed)
Book-ends (for keeping books upright on the shelf)
Gift vouchers, e.g.for Waterstones or Amazon
Movies of the book (e.g. buy the book "Enigma" and the film of the same name, or buy the book "Rebecca" and the BBC dvd of the same name)
Audio books (I often like to hear a book read out loud)
Book bag (I hate it when my book gets bashed around and bent, so I love my little book bag because it keeps my book safe and clean inside my handbag)
Book bungee (an elastic bookmark that will not fall out of the book!)
If you want to include a couple of books, how about buying ones that have just been published this Xmas? At least you'll know your friend hasn't got them already. Or you could get a special edition of a book, or one signed by the author. Waterstones is doing a special edition Lord of the Rings with a glitter cover for £35; I would die of happiness if I found it in my stocking, even though I already have two copies of the paperback version. Or you could get a collectable book or first edition.
Add to that a box of chocs and a bookworm mug with some hot chocolate or whatever, and perhaps fluffy socks socks or a blanket, and it would make a nice gift. I personally wouldn't bother with the bath-rack thing; all true bookworms know that the steam ruins your precious books and curls the pages, so you never read your best books in the bath anyway.0 -
Maybe a mug like this?
