Has retailer got a right to inspection?

Check the MSE article linked at the top of this board for Failed Delivery? Fight Back! 'If I waste a day, you'll pay'. This isn't exactly the OP's situation but the same principle applies.0

The fault I that the rear side of the fridge has ice building up on it. The food itself has water building up on it.
This is self defrosting fridge-freezer and there should be no ice in the fridge and no water building up on the food.0 -

This is self defrosting fridge-freezer and there should be no ice in the fridge and no water building up on wood.
So, unless I'm mistaken, you explain this fault to them and say you'd like to return it. This gives them the opportunity to agree this is not normal operation or that it is normal and the item is not faulty after all.
But to ask you if they can inspect it would be calling you a liar - something I'd be surprised they'd do.
You don't need to let them inspect it (is my understanding).0 -
Of course they are allowed to inspect it. How would sending a someone qualified to inspect the item be somehow calling the OP a liar? But to ask you if they can inspect it would be calling you a liar - something I'd be surprised they'd do.

The engineer will either confirm the "fault", provide an easy solution or suggest a repair. The OP is still free to reject any repair..
Have you checked the settings you have selected are correct?Mishomeister wrote: »The fault I that the rear side of the fridge has ice building up on it. The food itself has water building up on it.

As I expected, this seems to me like it will be a simple "fix" due to user error.0 -
Your understanding is wrong. Furthermore as it's been less then 30 days and the OP wants to exercise their short-term right to reject then strictly speaking the onus is on them to prove an inherent fault exists and was present on delivery. Either way the seller has a right to determine that a fault does exist and what that fault is, they don't have to take the buyer's word for it.So, unless I'm mistaken, you explain this fault to them and say you'd like to return it. This gives them the opportunity to agree this is not normal operation or that it is normal and the item is not faulty after all.

Have you tried unblocking the drainhole at the back? If that is blocked, as they invariably do, then the condensate cannot drain out.No free lunch, and no free laptop
