Broadband speed

Options
What is a basic broadband speed?

I am with Plusnet, some month to go on my contract, on second thoughts I am not sure.(Unlimited (Contracted))
My broadband is really slow at the moment - 2Mbps to 0.2Mbps download, slower for the upload 0.4-0.2Mbps

I did recently have my PC repaired, but I believe it was ok for a few weks after.
I run win10, on a desktop with a USB stick to connect it to the wi-fi.

    No such thing.

What does the address checker at https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/adsl.htm?s_cid=ws_furls_adslchecker say?

Try it plugged in mind rather than over WiFi.

That site gives a minimum of 6.9; but as I am using WI-FI 24/7, not easy to say if my current slow speed is because of wi-fi or the broadband, or another cause.

Minimum? What's the "Downstream Line Rate(Mbps)" for "WBC ADSL 2+"

It should say something like "Up to 14"

Edit: You still need to test it plugged in.

I think the basic they've now introduced by law is 10Mbps which really is bare mimimum. Depends which package you are on with your provider.

This isn't introduced yet, there are discussions ongoing about a universal service obligation (USO) regarding a minimum connection speed, set at 10Mb/s , but it's a long way from being introduced , so anyone on a sub 10Mb connection will not have any legal right to an improvement for a while yet

It does not matter what speed they say I can get, if my PC or wi-fi cannot go that fast.

The speeds I am now getting seem a lot better, just now = 9mbs download, 0.34mbs upload. Why it is faster, I dont know.

Is it normal for there to be such a difference between download and upload speed?

As regards download/upload speeds then yes, that's normal (although your UL is poor). As an example my previous ADSL deal was 19 Mbps UL & 1 Mbps DL, my current fibre is 37 Mbps DL & 9 Mbps UL. Unless you have a specific need there's no requirement for a fast UL speed.

Yes. That is what the A in ADSL means. It stands for asymmetric - down is faster than up. Most people download far more than upload so having faster down speeds is fine.
