Stolen Nectar Points

• I have just lost £50 worth of points from my Nectar card that have been spent in Argos. Nectar are investigating but say it could take 28 days, so it looks like I won't be able to spend the points on Xmas food as planned.:(
• Looks like we had £60 of points redeemed fraudulently at a Sainsbury's in Dorset last Friday - I can categorically state that it wasn't us as we were moving house in Sussex that day!

What's the chances of getting it back?

Why not ask them.

My Nectar points have been redeemed also - not by me! I am so cross as I wanted to use them to help with the expense of Christmas. How can this happen?

• I too had Nectar points taken from my account a couple of months ago, I phoned them up to discuss.
The call handler was very understanding and looked at my account and could see that we had never used this particular Sainsbury's although close to where we worked. He also suggested we delete card from our eBay account.
He cancelled our cards straight away and sent out new ones, he credited our account back with what had been taken (appox £45.00) and also gave us a further credit of £5.00 for the inconvenience.
So for us they were very customer focused, as I was not expecting any sort of refund.
But if you do phone do not rant, be polite and you never know.
• I too have just had my Nectar account cleaned out. Three point liquidations in one day, 20K, 25K and 3.5K, two Sainsburys in the north-east and the last, a Sainsburys in the Wirral. My card was with me all the time and I have never been in any of the three stores where the transcactions took place. I spotted the loss on my next visit to my local Sainsburys, as I always check my receipts.

I have never had any phishing e-mails and have only used my card at the local Sainsburys and Sainsbury's petrol station in the last six months or so. I normally scan the card in myself. No other cards/accounts have been affected.

Nectar were sympathetic and quite formal, promising an enquiry; the local Sainsbury's were concerned and passed all details to Sainsbury's fraud team; the police declined to investigate and gave me a leaflet on identity fraud. I completed an online entry with ActionFraud, who have since advised "The use of another person’s identity, often referred to as identity theft, is not a police recordable crime. Where the details are used to obtain goods or services, we can only record a crime on behalf of the person or organisation which was defrauded as a result of the misuse of an identity." I can't quite follow the logic of this, as surely my identity has been misused and I was defrauded in that the details were used to obtain goods....??

This looks like someone is able to access details, reproduce the bar code, but also knows which accounts to do it to.... Anyone got any advice? Thanks.
• You'll need to wait for Sainsbury's to finish their investigation.

I'm assuming you've also informed Nectar Loyalty as the scheme is ran by them and not Sainsbury's directly?

Don't believe a word of it. You had 48,500 nectar points on your card worth £252.50 and somebody cloned your card then went in to Sainsburys and spent the lot?
Who on earth would have bothered to do this? How would they have done it? How would they even have known you had all these points?
Suggest you look closer to home. Who has access to any other cards, key fobs etc on your account?
