So whats it for then if you havent ordered a car or committed to one?

Have you not just effectively given them money for no reason at this point?

    Is what I thought.
Why give them anything unless you have ordered?
And I'd have thought that savings could soon dwindle to insignificance if you have problems and have to keep going back. I know you can take it to a local agent and so on, but I can't see them having any sympathy at all for a car bought elsewhere.

On what? A car that I haven’t ordered?
Your other thread suggested you had, ie, put down a deposit then wanting to change your mind because you found cheaper elsewhere. As far as the dealer is concerned you put down a deposit to secure the car, if you don't think so then why did you even start that thread.

But I dont want to go to Scotland for a car and want to keep with my current dealer. Would rather spend a little bit extra but not to much (trains and time).

Your better off getting your money back now and finding a car nearer you.
  • Hey everyone.

    Thanks for the responses.

As stated, when I visited the dealership it was a gesture of goodwill. I didn!!!8217;t order or commit to any car, the !!!8220;deposit!!!8221; was a bargaining tool.

I went back today to sort out the finance. Whilst the finance people were doing that I asked to discuss prices - he was very nice and said !!!8220;of course!!!8221;. I showed them the car that!!!8217;s (about) £1200. He said he could see what he could do. The price online didn!!!8217;t include delivery, mot and petrol, £250. So it!!!8217;s really only about £1k cheaper.

So I managed to get the car for £650 cheaper than what it says online, and a couple of hundred more than what Arnold Clark were quoting.

Don!!!8217;t get !!!8220;approved!!!8221; for finance but they knew I had the cash I haven!!!8217;t been back in the country for long, and I don!!!8217;t work. I!!!8217;ve been approved in another dealership. No loss.

He said the dealership bought the car for £10k so they weren!!!8217;t making money, they are probably lying right.

Don!!!8217;t care, love the car, bought the accessories, I!!!8217;m sure everyone is happy.

OP the best piece of advice would be to avoid dealing with Arnold Clark. Aftersales care is very poor add to that you are a distance away and well it makes no sense.
The AC car will likely be pre regd too.

Add to that anyone leaving £500 with a garage and not knowing what it is for !!!!!!. As a customer it is up to THEM TO SHOW YOU GOODWILL not vice versa.
