Mirror on ATM Machine?????

Not sure if this is the right board to post on but I used a Atm machine the other day and there was a thin peice of mirror attached.

Thought this was abit strange, then I thought it could be so that you can see the people behind you in the que

I would of had to stand away form the Atm machine to see the que through this mirror!!!

Is this normal??? Im sure its Not!!

The machine was actually joined on to the bank, if that makes sense, but it didnt even look like it had been professionaly put on.

I know from passing that there were always two Atm machines on the wall of this bank but ive looked on every other Atm machine since that day and have Not seen another mirror like this

Has anybody seen something like this?? or does it seem strange to you as well???

I've seen a dodgy attachment in warning pictures before, but not a mirror.

I wonder if it is so someone could stand behind you in the queue to see what pin number you input?

Sounds suss anyway. Did you query it in the bank itself?

    No I Havnt !

Because the Atm machine is attached to the banks wall I kind of dismissed it
It doesnt seem right at all

But the withdrawal that I made has shown on my list of withdrawlas

Ill see if anybody else has ever seen this if not then I suppose I would have to get intouch with the main banking office of someone like that

Methods are more and more ingenious in which to record your PIN number.

The safest way to prevent it is to closely cover your inputting hand with your other hand.
As most recording facilities will have to be above the keyboard to identify the keys pressed this will prevent anyone seeing your numbers.

Brushing your finger along the card slot should identify any rogue skimming devices. (although some are very well disguised)

Most important of all - if you suspect any suspicious devices - let the bank/police know - you could prevent other less observant people being fleesed.
  • and also if you do see anything suspicious on an atm dont attempt to remove it yourself as someone from the "gang" could be watching

There was a card reader on the ATM at uni the other day.. someone infront of me used it too.. I noticed it and used the other one which was ok.. I told someone in the union office but they didn't do anything.

    nothign new here

the mirros itself is sued for someone to look behind at the queue only if its a mirror that appears not built in

if it does that mean behind it is a camera, to see if someone hasnt actualkly attached a reader onto it

    hope this helps

Acid, this is an English forum :p

That mirror sounds dodgy to me, I would have either told the bank straight away or knowing me ripped it off myself :D

 That does sound seriously dodgy! But a bit cheap and skanky!

All the devices used are usually really sophisticated.

Outside my bank there is a swipe on the door so you can get in when the bank is closed. Someone put a 'new' swipe machine above the normal one so everyone was using that and didnt even query why there was 2!
Eventually it was noticed and found to be a dodgy one that was storing all the card details!

I'm paranoid about my card being cloned, my parents was and they didnt get their thousands of pounds back for months!

I think i understand what acid is saying:

If the mirror is built in, it is so that you are able to see behind you, maybe to see if someone is watching you?

It the mirror is not built in, there will be a a camera behind it, i guess to read your pin?

Sorry if i havnt understood correctly!!
