EE Max vs Essential data

I called EE as I needed more data.
Just wanted a SIM only deal. I am currently on one of their Max plans - I understand this is their fastest data package.
To get more data for about the same price they said I should go on to one of their Essential data plans - where it seems the data is slower.
Whilst I do need data I do not want to go backwards in terms of data speed. Anyone have any experience of this or can provide any advice?
Thanks.

As far as I know Max is not available on sim-only but you can buy a go faster bundle.
Depends if you live in a part of the country where 4G+ is available. If so but you venture outside that area the chances are that you will then only get 4G which in its turn means you are paying an inflated price for it. Personally I don't see the point of paying extra for such a confined service. Certainly 4G+ is not available where I live.

So I already have a Max plan with them. I am London based so assume 4G+ coverage is fairly good. (assume)0

I had a long 'discussion' with EE about this via chat. It seems they only offer the Max Plan now on contract deals with phones, not SIM only.
With the Max contact, as well as the faster theoretical maximum data speed, you also get additional roaming in Australia, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand and the USA which you would lose.
If I want to 'upgrade' my data allowance on EE Max SIM only plan, I will have to switch tariff and pay more for slower max data speeds and lose some free roaming in those countries above.
They couldn't seem to grasp this wasn't value at all and kept telling me to take out a contract with phone I don't want or need at about 3x the cost of SIM free to keep these benefits.0
