£230 ish at Honda. They recommended not doing water pump as they!!!8217;d never seen a failure. Independent quoted us above £300.
I thought the dealer price would be dearer.0 -

If you google Honda fixed prices repairs they give a list of standard repair costs. Looking at it now it’s actually 2250 -
I've just phoned a Honda dealer and been quoted £225 which is good but they said the water pump dosn't need doing or the tension. They said that is the case for some other makes of car but not our Honda.
Is this correct ? Forgot to mention it's an automatic.0 -

Automatic doesn't matter.
I personally would get the water pump and tensioner done. There's no reason not too. You'll save like £70 at most but run the risk of one of those two components failing down the line. It's preventative maintenance at the end of the day.0 -

I always have done in the past with other cars. I wonder why they said it doesn't apply to my Honda.0 -

What they told me (which is what they told you) is that they have never seen a failure.
I would hazard a guess that they get a fair bit of business servicing older cars. Honda is just that kind of make where their type of customer will keep coming back to dealers, especially with their reasonable servicing prices. Therefore if the people who built the car and service a lot of them are telling you they've never seen a failure, it's obviously worth bearing in mind.
That said its a gamble either way. You could waste a bit of money (I suspect more than £70 for oem at honda) replacing parts that will likely never fail for the lifetime that you have the car. If you look at cheaper non oem parts would they be as good as the original honda part? Or you could do preventative maintenance. It might also be worth considering that water pump failure is unlikely to be catastrophic in the same way timing belt failure would be (assuming you keep an eye on the temp dial and dont let it overheat). Tensioner in fairness I'm not quite sure but suspect you would get a noise before impending doom.
Incidentally I do all my own servicing/repairs but don't have time to do a timing belt and for the quoted price it didn't seem worth the time/stress, so have only used my honda dealer once, to get this done0 -

Thanks for all your advice.
Honda place didn't give me a reason, just said it's not required. Another garage quoted me £400 including the water pump change which seems overpriced to me. They also said that the new tension bits come with the new belt and is done at the same time.Do you know anything about that?
I'm going to phone the Honda place again and get a quote including water pump and tension.0 -
Yeah I got a quote of over £400 for everything from a local independent. The quote will just be for the belt. The genuine Honda belt is around £45. I believe the service schedule just indicates inspection rather than replacement of the tensioner. Id do what you say- ask for quotes for the extra bits and weigh up whether you think it is worth it. I may have asked but it was a while ago and cant remember.0

I stick with Honda fixed price servicing for my Honda legend, genuine parts fitted by main dealer for cheaper than local garages, can!!!8217;t go wrong really. It!!!8217;s all on their website, just choose a local dealer to you.0
