Might be a bit more with water pump, budget up to £100. My Mondeo was £350 for cambelt, tensioner and water pump. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Depends when it was made, all civics from 2006/7 to 2011 are chain.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0

Given that the Civic has been produced for over 20 years and has so many different engine options, a little more detail would be useful!

Exactly the same as ours.
£230 ish at Honda. They recommended not doing water pump as they!!!8217;d never seen a failure. Independent quoted us above £300.0 -
I'd ignore that recommendation given that:
A) A main dealer is very unlikely to get to see a car that has done 100k or more so is very unlikely to ever see a water pump failure.
To change the water pump you effectively do the same as a cambelt change but without changing the cambelt and as the workshop manual says to inspect the water pump anyway you might as well change it as the only cost difference is the price of the part and maybe a bit of coolant.
There are certain things on cars where when you're doing another job its worth changing certain components regardless of whether they need it at the time or not as the labour cost to do that part is basically the same as the other job you're having done. Water pumps when changing timing belts are such an example. As my cars typically do well over 100,000 miles before needing a clutch change I tend to get things like rear crankshaft oil seals and gearbox input shaft seals done as well when having a new clutch fitted. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Fair points. I made the choice not to on the basis of the advice, it appearing to be backed up by some internet searching and the part itself not exactly being cheap for the Honda part anyway. When you have a high mileage civic and the quote from an independent to change everything being around half the value of the car itself I chose to just get the belt changed as the prospect of the water pump failing seemed pretty low and not worth the outlay taking into account the value of the car.
Anyway the main point was I found Honda the cheapest by a fair bit and they picked up and dropped off the car from our drive0
